Civil Engineer / Tunnel Engineer Seattle, WA – Part Time
An experienced technical leader in the rail or tunnel / mining industry as an consultant or in-house technical resource. Strong knowledge and background of the passenger rail, tunnel / mining industry specific to permitting, entitlements, and/or regulatory compliance. Demonstrated ability to organize diverse technical teams to resolve the challenging issues facing the industry. Proven ability to develop projects with operations as well as corporate environmental, engineering and project development resources.
The successful candidate will become a member of SCL’s Project Management Team and will participate in the oversight, planning, design, and management of tasks for rail and or tunnel design and construction management projects. Good written and oral communication skills are a must. Job duties include participating in or directing the QA/QC and inspection of existing engineering projects and CM projects; design of tunneling shafts and other underground facilities including review and analysis of calculations, reports, drawing, and contract documents (e.g. plans, specifications, GBR and GDR).
Candidate should have 8 to 12 years of demonstrated rail, tunnel and/or geostructural experience. Knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, geotechnical and geostructural analysis, methods and techniques as applied to underground structures a plus. Familiarity with Plaxis, FLAC, UDEC, Dips, Unwedge, and AutoCAD are a plus.
Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Review of structural and geotechnical design calculations and drawings for tunnel and other underground works;
- Review and analysis of cost estimates and feasibility studies;
- Review contract documents;
- Provide input as needed to marketing and business development efforts; and
- Coordinate daily project activities and manage projects.
Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Structural or Mining Engineering. PE required. Masters preferred.
