Taco Cabana, Inc. pioneered the Mexican patio cafe concept with its first restaurant in 1978 and, as of January 2, 2000, operated and franchised a total of 119 such restaurants system-wide. Of these, the Company owned and operated 109 Taco Cabana restaurants and franchisees owned and operated the remaining 10 Taco Cabana restaurants. The restaurants provide interior, semi-enclosed and patio dining areas with a festive Mexican theme.
