Tait & Associates, Inc. was established in Anaheim, California in the summer of 1964 when a young and ambitious civil engineer left a major oil company to start a private consulting engineering company.
Kenneth E. Tait, P.E., Ph.D., remembers vividly the excitement of starting his own firm and the ensuing panic to find projects that soon settled in. In the wake of setting up the office, Dr. Tait realized it would take more than just a phone call to keep the business afloat. That first week he made the decision to 'simply do what it takes' to bring work in the door so he concentrated his efforts on the infrastructure expansion of the petroleum industry and soon had a backlog of projects to build his business.
Perhaps more significant though, he instilled into the company a philosophy of 'getting things done' that remains the cornerstone of our operation to this day.
Within a few short years of opening the doors, TAIT gained notoriety for producing innovative engineering designs in the petrochemical industry. Dr. Tait and his staff embraced the opportunity to work on new projects and provided plans and specifications for the design of tank farms; terminals and pipelines; filter and pumping systems; satellite transfer stations; truck loading islands; and hydrant systems for high-speed aircraft fueling.
The oil industry provided the springboard for TAIT to expand its services to better meet the changing needs of the development community to expand and improve the infrastructure of California. The company became involved in the engineering design and management of a variety of projects, including street and highways; water and wastewater facilities; commercial developments; residential subdivisions; industrial parks and the like.
Today, we represent a variety of clients, ranging from local developers and Fortune 500 corporations to national retail chains and government agencies. With over 160 professionals in six offices, we continue to focus on the core values Dr. Tait instilled in the company with a continued commitment to expand at a steady pace.
Dr. Tait remains active in the day-to-day operations of the company and its subsidiaries. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the firm where we rely on his experience and wisdom in our strategic decision making and management.
He is a Registered Civil Engineer in 27 states and has designed and patented a variety of equipment for the production end of the oil industry and distribution of both finished and produced product. In fact, he designed and patented the original aluminum covered pit boxes that were installed at airline facilities worldwide.
He began his career in 1948 at the United States Bureau of Reclamation while earning his engineering degree at Montana State University. In 1953, he joined Mobil Oil and four years later, at the age of 27, was stationed overseas in Northern Africa. He was among a select few who pioneered Mobil's exploration of oil in that region of the world. Dr. Tait has the distinction of having located the first oil well in Libya--which is the world's 5th largest producer of crude oil.
In 1959, Dr. Tait worked as a construction engineer for Standard Oil Company of California. He was later transferred to Signal Oil Company and promoted to Operations Manager. While at Signal, he was in charge of designing and supervising the construction of all fueling facilities, including service stations, plants and terminals.
It was that specialized experience he relied on to form his company and we continue to specialize in the design and development of service stations and related commercial structures, including quick service restaurants, convenience stores and car wash facilities. – less–ZoomInfo
