A great learning experience
Writer for entertainment section (Former Employee) –  Oklahoma Christian UniversityJune 22, 2017
The Talon is where I got my start in learning how to write for a newspaper. It was a great college experience and I learned not only how to interview, but also how to meet intense deadlines.

Shipping and Receiving Technician (Former Employee) –  Stanley, NCApril 30, 2017
Company sold out and moved to Mexico for cheaper labor rates. No longer in business. Part of the dying textile industry in the US. Not bad for a first job.

Short Term Work Experience
Geologist (Current Employee) –  Austin, TXNovember 1, 2016
This company is easy to become "content" with if you do not desire personal and professional growth. Management doesn't allow or offer much advancement and they send you into the field last minute. Over time is NOT offered for salaried employees, which can become very frustrating if you work in the field with hourly technicians that make SIGNIFICANTLY more than you over the course of a year. Get your experience and get out.
Pros
Field expenses are paid for by the company.
Cons
Healthcare, Management, Room for growth, No over-time pay

Barista (Current Employee) –  La Mirada, CAAugust 29, 2014
A typical day at the Talon involves brewing coffee, preparing and making food and ice drinks, maintaining cleanliness around the establishment, greeting and serving customers, and working the register. I learned about different types of coffee and ways to create drinks that are fun and enjoyable for all. You are in constant, close proximity to your coworkers, so you learn to work as a team. Sometimes it becomes hard when there is a 'rush' and you are constantly moving at a fast pace to accomplish a common goal. However, you get to work with great people who love making and serving coffee.
Pros
Free lunch, flexible hours
Cons
Strict uniform, small establishment
