TAMKO Building Products is ready if you're in the mood to raise the roof. The company manufactures residential and commercial roofing products, waterproofing membranes, railing and decking systems, roofing cements and coatings, and driveway sealants and crack fillers. Products include Lamarite composite shingles, MetalWorks steel shingles, and the Heritage Series laminated asphalt shingles. Founded in 1944 by E.L. Craig, TAMKO is controlled by his family. His daughter, Ethelmae Humprheys, remains the company's chairman, while her son, David Humphreys, has been its CEO for nearly two decades.
TAMKO's name is derived from Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma, the states Craig believed would be his company's initial territory. But TAMKO has since expanded beyond that geographic region and now operates more than two dozen manufacturing and warehouse facilities in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, and Virginia, in addition to its original target market. The company distributes its products throughout the US.
TAMKO mainly sells to homeowners, architects, and builders. In addition to its roofing products, the company's brands include EverGrain and Elements composite decking, TAM-Rail railing systems, and Awaplan rolled roofing material. However, as construction activity has been scaled back nationwide since the credit crisis hit earlier this century, demand for TAMKO's products has diminished as well. – less
