In the late 80's, Taos' founders, Ric Urrutia and Alexis Tatarsky, were working together as UNIX engineers at Apple Computer. They often found themselves providing system administration support for their team whenever a technical issue arose that prevented forward progress. To help them with providing this type of support, Ric and Alexis worked with numerous contractors, but with none whose performance levels met their expectations. Eager to find a better way to screen technical contractors to join their group, they dreamed up the idea for Taos' business model, and a new consulting model was born.
In 1989, they founded Taos on the basis that they could provide exceptional IT consulting services by qualifying top technical talent through an intensive Technical Interview and by providing an extensive consultant support structure.
