About Tarbuton, Israeli Cultural Center
Tarbuton modern Hebrew classes are offered in the Del Mar and Solana Beach schools. New classes are being explored in Encinitas, Carlsbad, and La Jolla. The Tarbuton provides Modern Hebrew and Jewish Holiday and Israel Education in English and Hebrew for ages pre-school through 8th grade, with an innovative Shnat Mitzvah middle school program, Hebrew for High School Credit and Adult hebrew classes in the Center in Carmel Valley. Also available are an Israeli dance troupe, Singing group, and Children’s theatre. The Tarbuton was recognized in November, 2012, by the Slingshot Fund as one of the top 50 Jewish Innovative programs in North America. Seed funding was provided first by the Jewish Federation of San Diego County in 2011 and 2012 for scholarships to needs-based students, making it possible for them to participate. The Leichtag Foundation provided additional support for the Tarbuton in 2011 and 2012 with additional scholarship funds for families and supporting the PJ Library program in the Tarbuton, the Modern Hebrew version, Sifriyat Pijama.
Part-Time Positions Available
May 2013 –May 2014
Hours: Part Time - 1-8 hrs/week. (2 hrs is average with some teachers working up to 5-6 hrs)
Week days in public schools 1 hr classes from 2:30-3:30, @ Carmel Valley Center - Mondays from 4:30-7:30 and/or Sundays 1-4. Availability between 2:30-6:30 daily week days is desirable as well. Commitment on Sundays and/or in Summer Camp (Keitana) ensures first priority for additional hours.
Reporting Structure: The positions report to the Tarbuton Director, with oversight by our Education Coordinator
Paid training is provided in August and is mandatory.
Possible Locations: Del Mar, Carmel Valley, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad, UTC, Chula Vista, Mission Valley/Clairemont.
Salary: $30-$80/hr depending on experience.
Education: Teaching degree highly desirable; but not required. Experience with children preferred. Proficiency in Hebrew required for Hebrew classes. We are willing to consider candidates who do not have teaching backgrounds but may have some relevant experience and/or skills and/or interest to be trained.
Duration: You must be available for training in August, and the school year runs from September – May. We offer a Summer Camp, Keitana as well some years and that could be additional hours.

Description: We need Hebrew speaking adults for part-time work with children ages pre-school – High School and/or in our Adult Modern Hebrew classes. Ideal skills: passion and consistent use of the Hebrew language in home and daily life, patience and ability to inspire and encourage. Character: Playful, energetic but consistent and disciplined. Hebrew proficiency is required.
Job Title: Israel Educator, 5th-8th Graders and High School (English Speaker OK)
Description: Energetic educator who is passionate about Israel to work with ages 5th grade – 7th grade managing a program that will include multiple speakers from various organizations, and a few field trips and projects with a focus on Israel’s culture through music, art, photography and more. Personal experience/time in Israel preferred and passion for Israel; but Hebrew language skills are not required.

Description: Energetic educator who is passionate about Jewish Holidays and traditions, Israeli style, Israeli history, geography, music, food and art for children K-5th grade. Personal experience/time in Israel preferred and passion for Israel; but Hebrew language skills are not required.
Job Title: Enrichment Teacher(s) for Children & Adults
Description: Energetic educator who is passionate about Israel, who can teach music, dance, food, outdoor, sports, or other enrichment classes. Character: Playful, energetic but consistent and disciplined. Experience with children preferred for children’s classes. Experience teaching preferred for adult classes. Personal experience/time in Israel preferred and passion for Israel; but Hebrew language skills are not required.
