Always looking out for #1. Thought we were a team.
Cashier & Guest Service Team Member (Former Employee), Watsonville, CA – May 23, 2013
Everyone is looking out for themselves at this store, especially Management and Supervisors. Sure I obtained alot of work experience there, it being my first job and thats probably the only thing im thankful to Target for.
Supervisors always had their favorites who took a 25-45 min break every shift and they wouldn't get written up. The one time I slipped – more... up and took a longer break, I got written up.
Don't try to work at this place unless you're prepared to ask EVERY SINGLE guest "DO YOU WANT TO APPLY FOR A RED CARD?". The issue isn't in having to ask people, but they get on your case every day every week for as long as you work there. & they expect you to talk the guest into applying for the card even after they've said no to you about 15 different times. They're just not realistic with the goals considering you only have about 6 cashiers the whole day.
I worked there for a solid 10 months, I was told that I was gonna be trained to move permanently to guest services instead of the front lanes when I obtained my 4 months there. But no, never happened. They're very inconsistent, one manager says one thing and the other says something else. The day I quit was when they offered once more to move me to guest services if I chose to stay with them. I took my last paycheck and never looked back.
I dont recommend it what-so-ever. – less

A great and well-respected company/team
Associate/Flow Team Member (Current Employee), Sheboygan Falls, WI – May 23, 2013
A typical day at work consists of throwing truck and getting all of the boxes onto the floor. Then empty the boxes and put that merchandise on the shelves. Then once the store opens, we as a team continue to put stuff on the shelf, but also provide guest service and ask our guests if they need help finding anything. I learned how to work well and communicate – more... great with my team members when it comes to guest service, perhaps if I do not know where a certain product is. Our management/supervisors are always around to help with that and make sure our team stays focused on meeting our goal times. The hardest part of my job I cannot think of one thing that stands out, and the most enjoyable part of my job is the sense of accomplishment I am giving Target, and talking to guests and making them feel as if they can ask anything at anytime! – less

The people were amazing and loved my job.
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Atwater, CA – May 23, 2013
Pros: great work, saw lots of people move up, fit with what i was interested in.
Cons: benefits, lied to about promotions.
My normal day I would get in contact with my manager to talk about my duties for the day. I'd then resume helping guests while completing tasks that were given to me ranging from dusting off shelves, setting up T.V.s, or setting product in correct locations. My co-workers were amazing and I still keep in contact after leaving the company.

Fast, fun, and friendly workplace with a great culture.
Guest Service Attendant (Current Employee), Mayfield Heights, OH – May 23, 2013
Great place to work, hours are not the best. Each day is its own, each day has its own challenges to overcome. Management is not always on the same page/level, each manager has their own expectations so you must learn what each of these are to do well in your position.

A great company to work for
Team Leader (Current Employee), Walnut Creek, CA – May 23, 2013
Pros: discounts, benefits
Cons: not a heathly work/ life balance for me
On a daily basis, I have to oversee a team that sets aisles and puts out new merchandise. It can be quite hectic at times, which I like. I enjoy the complex days where you can see a major difference in what we have done by the time the store opens the next morning. There are days when the work can be too much to handle and we have to struggle to make – more... it through but with a great partnership with peers, we are able to band together to make anything happen. – less

Great company with plenty of options and opportunities to succeed.
Electronics Department Manager (Former Employee), Metairie, LA – May 23, 2013
Pros: pay, vacations, company policies
Cons: very little flexibility with scheduling hours.
It's hard to give a definite typical day at work because it can change based on what day it is. Depending on how you prioritize your day it can be very smooth or extremely hectic. Pay is quite good in comparison to other retailers. As a manager though you may get bogged down with work because scheduling for coverage is very light. Overall though it's – more... a great company to kick start your career and the job is certainly what you make of it. – less

Good Environment to work in
Cashier/Guest Services (Former Employee), 6845 Sierra Center Pkwy Reno, NV, 89511 – May 22, 2013
Pros: better work environment than wendy's, good breaks
Cons: training was boring
Target had a nice environment, but each day I didn't know whether I was going to be a cashier for the day or working in guest services. I earned $8.25 an hour. My coworkers were very nice. The hardest part of the job was when I had to push the carts from the parking lot. My build does not suggest that I can do that. The most enjoyable part of the job – more... was when I was working in guest services. I loved helping the customers. – less

Sales Floor Team Member (Former Employee), San Antonio, TX – May 22, 2013
Pros: free lunches
Cons: short breaks
fold clothes that are on the folding tables
I learned that if your not using a cart to just give the cart to the customer.
management was good.
the hardest part of the job was climbing up the ladder to restock shoes or find shoes for the customer because of heights.
The most enjoyable part of the job was helping the customer and seeing a smile on their – more... faces. – less
