Taylor Fresh Foods could be considered a custom seamstress of edible veggie creations. The company manufactures prepackaged salads and fresh-cut fruits and vegetables for the US foodservice and wholesale food industries. Its products are sold under the Taylor Farms and River Ranch labels. The company's Taylor Organic unit produces and packages USDA certified organic foods. Taylor Fresh Foods operates processing plants in both the US and in Mexico. Founded in 1994, the food company is owned by CEO Bruce Taylor. The manufacturer has grown through numerous acquisitions over the years and continued building its business with the mid-2010 purchase of competitor River Ranch Fresh Foods.
Taylor operates nearly a dozen processing plants in the US in California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, and New Jersey, as well as one south of the border in Mexico.
River Ranch, another processor of salads and vegetables based in Salinas, California, is Taylor's first acquisition in several years and is expected to boost its new parent's production capabilities. Taylor intends to continue operating River Ranch as a separate brand with separate facilities. River Ranch was an enticing investment, as it carries no debt. Taylor was one of a dozen other companies vying for River Ranch. It was purchased from a consortium consisting of five banks. Before buying out River Ranch, Taylor extended its reach to the food safety category and formed the New Leaf Food Safety Solutions division in mid-2010. New Leaf targets other processors of fresh foods with its SmartWash-brand commercial cleansers, which help to prevent bacterial contamination, a precursor to food-borne illness outbreaks. The division also offers scale testing, product installation, and other commercial services. – less
