Sales Associate/Cashier/Customer Service, Austin, TX - August 10, 2016
A typical day would be preparing for customers in the morning, helping them meet their needs as necessary. Answering the phone & cashiering from open, to even after close at times, while balancing other given tasks to be completed throughout the day. Consisting of merchandising, putting out product from the warehouse, or working in the warehouse checking in and shipping out pallets of assorted educational supplies. I learned how to upsell products, work a register plus further customer service finding specific supplies using keywords, SKU codes & basic common sense. Also to do major merchandising rearranging whole sections of the store at times. The warehouse experience was also very eye opening into how much work goes into running, even a small business. The management was up and down from the time I got there to the time I left. I went through 5 managers & they were all very different people. That also ties into the hardest part of the job which was not getting to personal with everyone. TH being as diverse as it is I got the opportunity to come across very interesting and enlightening characters. I eventually decided set boundaries with coworkers & even the owner. Who I worked with every now and again on the sales floor. The best part of the job was seeing parents and teachers light up after you have found something that would work for the decoration of a class or lets say a finding a colored overlay for dyslexic child. Expressing your inner child every other month creating decorations for the impulse display at the front of the store. Also interacting with motivated bright children, & for being my first job, i'm very glad it was there.
