Productive and educational place to work
Sales Associate (Former Employee), San Diego, CA – May 16, 2013
Pros: paid training, friendly staff, international company
Cons: benefits
On a typical day, I begin by finding out the current promotions or activities. Next, I check for major stocking. I promote products in store and out of the store, also work at the cash register. I learned a lot about where resources and products come from, as well as sales skills. The management and co-workers were very friendly and positive. The hardest – more... part is inspiring people who do not have interest in coming into the store. The most enjoyable part of the job is trying the products and being proud of the products you are selling. – less

Fast pace bubbly environment.
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Eugene, OR – April 24, 2013
Pros: learning professional customer service skills & knowledge of product.
Cons: not enough hours available.
A typical day at work for me started off checking to see if we had new promotions, new products, discounts and gaining knowledge on those etc... I would do a lot of lease selling, demonstrating and selling our products right outside our store grabbing costumers attention to bring them in. I would typically sell a product with another product or "pair – more... sell" to not only make our store money and reach my quote but to show costumers how great our products work together.

I learned how to sell products, Use professionalism and keep a positive bubbly attitude, Teach myself the product well, Use there computer/cashier, advertise, learn how inventory works,multi- task etc...

I had great co-workers and learned something new from them everyday. One of my jobs was not only selling make-up and skin care but actually demonstrating these products and learning what type fits what person. My co-works showed me new skills involving applying make-up and different techniques that i hadn't before.

The hardest part of my job was not being able to sell everyone. The body shop had great products and i just wanted everyone to see that.

The most enjoyable part of my hob was literally seeing the satisfied costumers leave the store happy and excited to try there new merchandise. – less

Pros: skin care and make up training
Cons: short breaks
I come in and get checked in for the day. I have daily goals as well as task to perform from cleaning to product knowledge. It is on the Job training and its a daily thing. Hardest part of the job is sometimes remembering things about all the products. I enjoy interacting with the customer so much to learn and share. I get to meet tourist from all over.

Productive and fun work environment
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Washington,DC – April 17, 2013
Pros: friendly co-workers, lots of clientele, fun and cute.
Cons: bad pay, impossible to advance, worked no more then 10 hours a week
I love the Body Shop! I'm a firm believer in its brand and product and that's why I have such great luck selling it. I throughly enjoy the customer interaction, thats honestly the reason why I stay. Body Shop customers are great! I absolutely love giving an individual an incredible shop experience and I love being the reason people come back!
The management – more... was so-so, sometimes I'd encounter great managers. Managers who knew the ins and outs of the company and loved the brand. Other times I would encounter management that asked me proper protocol, etc.

The hardest part of the job was making the day. It's very difficult making your quota oftentimes because the store counts conversion. So, if 15 people walk in for a 10$ item, were screwed. Also, getting customers to sign up for the rewards card was also a challenge. The best part of the job are the CUSTOMERS!!!! I absolutely love making people's day. Even when I'm having a rough day, when i make someone else smile its all worth it. – less

great place to work and felt like i was giving back to community
Shop Manager (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – April 17, 2013
Pros: fun work enviroment, good management
Cons: new company took over and they quit all the charity parties
A typical day would be filled with : looking at the goal and devising a plan on how our store as a team was going to reach this goal, Then the plan would be to go thru our preferred customer list to make sure anyone on a waiting list for a product had been notified it was there. Then my team and i went over plan and put it in action. The plan could – more... include doing demos at the lease line, do a demo with every customer transaction as well as add ons, etc. My district manager was great you could come to him about anything job related and he was always willing to help if need be. The hardest part of the job was honestly getting information on new products and only having a day to learn about them before they hit the store. I did over come this with making flash cards with facts and writing facts about new product on our management sales plan daily and checking in with employees during the down times to see what they learned or go over any questions they might have. The most enjoyable part was meeting new customers and doing our charity parties. – less

A typical day is helping to rearrange merchandise, stock help customers. I have learned so much about my people skills. I was able to bring my sales up 17% by taking note of how I interact with customers and asking for tips from those above me. I love my co-workers! They are vibrant and friendly and I get along with them very well.

fast paced,
Customer Service Specialist (Former Employee), Wake Forest, NC – February 21, 2013
Pros: free products, company vegetable garden, health initiatives
Cons: too few reps in call center
The Body Shop was a geat place to work. Most hard or fast paced call center volume always peaked at holidays. Then the pace was stressfull. We had a tight knit group and wonderful supervisors who tried to keep up moral by providing fun activities, pot luck dinners and contest to keep up moral. We enjoyed all the free samples and gifts the company shared – more... with us. I learned I can deal with about any type customer, because all the customer wanted was for some one to acknowledge them and listen and provide a solution to their problems. – less

Hated it...
Customer Consultant (Former Employee), Lichfield – February 7, 2013
Pros: only benefit is the 50% discount.. if you actually use any of the products.
Cons: contracts, management, career progression, shifts, too target-driven
Worked there for a few years.. I hated it with a passion, I felt no drive to get up and go to work.. in fact I dreaded it.

The contracts they offer are ridiculous. Mine was 4 hours..That's 4 hours a week.. How is someone meant to live on 4 hours a week?

The fact that they do not follow their values or ''Ethics''. all this ' Activate self esteem etc' – more... in fact they do the opposite. They use you & then drop you when they feel like it..

False promises.. Only being on a 4 hour contract I continually asked for a larger contract and was promised, on several occasions, that my contract would be put up. This never happened.

The management were okay... but they were never 'to the point'. They would tip-toe around and were never honest with you. They were all also very '2 faced' I found. Considering I covered at a number of stores, the majority of the managers, and assistant managers, were all very 2 faced and vindictive..

The shifts they offer are also ridiculous, if you have to travel some distance to go to work it really isn't worth going in at all. They would give shifts that were for 2 or 3 hours, basically, to cover lunches.

It's also very target driven, you basically feel like you have to force people to spend money, or to purchase one of the stores 'Loyalty cards' or get moaned at for not 'trying'..

In my opinion AVOID working for this company like the plague!
- They expect too much from you, and give you nothing in return. – less

Productive and fulfilling work place
Part -Time Assistant Manager (Current Employee), Columbus, Ohio – January 21, 2013
Being passionate and educated about the product is VERY important, and once you learn all there is to know about the products, being passionate comes naturally. Co-workers are hard workers and always room to move up if you are a hard worker with a strong work ethic!
Hardest part would be the sales aspect and really reading customers the correct way – more... to have a successful day!
Easiest and most enjoyable is being in an extremely interactive store where you can play as much as the customers! – less

Great Products, but employee values and safety comprimised
Sales Associate, 3rd Key holder (Former Employee), Canada – November 20, 2012
Pros: great products, good product values
Cons: employee safety compromised
When I started working at Body Shop I loved it. I really did. The Products are amazing, you have a great discount and you believe in the company's values. I felt proud to work for a place that was against animal testing and supports fair trade. It's a great feeling to work for a company with such great world values and concerns for the environment.

Unfortunately, – more... these values did not carry over to their employees.

There was an extreme amount of pressure to sell, and employees were 'graded' based on their performance. However, your stats were based upon your transactions that you processed at the cash, so if you were at lease-line or helping a customer and another employee rang up the purchase you helped a client with, they recieved the credit.

Also, scheduling was unreliable. One several occasions, I would come in to work only to find out that my hours had been cut for that very day, or that I was starting 2 hours later than I was supposed to. They would make changes without notifying us less than 24 hours before our shifts were supposed to being.

These things aside, the issue that made me leave my job was the evening shifts. Often, we would be expected to work 5 to 6 hours alone at night till closing. Our store had no alarms, no surveillance, no security. We were entirely a female staff. Being alone from 3 to 9:30, having to close and count the cashes, as well as drop off the deposit alone was incredibly irresponsible of the company. This really compromised my safety, as well as the safety of other women who were working alone.

I really liked working there, It was sad to leave. What's even sadder is that a company that claims to carry such good values about protecting the environment and animals can't carry these values over to their own employees. – less
