Sales Store Manager (Current Employee) – Gaithersburg, MD – April 20, 2015
A typical day at the children's place would be myself and one other associate coming in, in the morning. I review all communications from upper management. Basically any updates or changes within the company. I would review our sales plan for the previous and current day to see week to date where we are as far as our sales plan. I would prepare a daily road map. Its basically a tracker to keep us in knowledge of our sales on a hourly bases. All while having my opening associates perform the daily morning routine (Cleaning stores front display windows, dusting impulse fixtures and cleaning mirrors). I than would open all registers and balance them if i was not the closing manager from the previous night. I would then go over sales plans and numbers with my associate. Make sure they are aware of all promotions and goals for the day so that they are able to sale and engage with customers comfortably. I will then assign a task to my associate for them to work on in between customers. It could be from processing merchandise, to replenishing the sales floor or setting up a new fixture and display with accessories. For myself we usually always have floor changes and updates. So i pull out everything i need to the floor (hardware and merchandise) so that myself and my associate are always available to the customers. In between projects myself and my associate are greeting and offering shopping bags to each customer that enters our store. We are offering up our full attention and service providing exceptional customer service to customers. Creating a fast pace and friendly environmentmore... for the parents and children that enter our store. We have a wide variety of customers here at the children s place so i meet a lot of cool moms and dads.
Working at this company for five years, I have worked in every part of management you can within the retail store. So i have learned a lot. I've learned the ins and outs of the company. I've learned and got to experience how other store managers have ran and run their stores. I've traveled and had the opportunity to run a few other children's placelocatios within my district. With all of this i learned the true meaning of customer service and how to be and provide that experience for the customer. I learned and grew to be able to recruit and lead my own management team within my own store. I learned how to be a great leader and develop leaders that have gone off to have there own stores.
Management at the Children's place has been inconsistent sense i started at the company. From the vice president of the company to the regional manager to my district manger who will be the third sense I've been with the company. When i first started at the company we had a district manager who was actually interested and knew exactly what was going on in the stores. Very understanding and understood the actual pressure that took place in the actual retail store. Always available and looking for new talent and candidates to promote within the company. The last two years have been people whom have never worked in the company so they weren't of any resources far as far as developing new managers and training new managers. It became a sink or swim situation in any new hire situation. The last and most recent district manager was actually recruited from within the company. I thought this was a perfect choice because they would understand the highs and lows of the company but nothing as changed. Management as of late has not been helpful and supportive at all.
I have some great co-workers whom i have developed throughout my years of working at the children's place. Some that i am happy to be able to call my friends. My co-workers are actually like family. Very hard working. Some have left the company and have come back and i was able to put together a great management team because of them. We work well together. They are great people and exceptional leaders. Very reliable and hard working people.
The hardest part of my job is having my days and weeks planned out and not being able to follow through because of the lack of payroll. On a day to day basis i am only provided enough hours to have two on two coverage even on our busiest days. I am in a high traffic store so trying to process 60 boxes of shipment every other day and set an entire stores floor set within a weeks time frame along with prices changes and displays is a huge struggle. I still have to provide customer service and operate the registers. I find myself coming in on off days and using vacation time to have extra coverage within my store.
The most enjoyable thing about my job is that i know my job. I am able to assist any and all customers to insure they are highly satisfied when they come in each time. I am able to be there for my team and help develop them. Lastly i get to work with great people.less
Incentive programs which motivates and makes making goals fun; healthcare and benefits, relationships gained from working the company, opportunity to grow and learne
Thourough training not offered to managers (sink or swim) nor is extra payroll provided for training, Long hours which are not paid for, hard to get things repaired in the store
A typical day at work would be clocking in and talking to the manager to figure out what tasks need to be done for the day, Assist any customers and maintaining upkeep of the store. At this job I learned how to interact with people I never met before and make them feel comfortable in our store. Management was good, respected everybody. My coworkers were some of the nicest people I've met before I am still friends with them even today. The hardest part about this job was cleaning up the after inconsiderate customers who do not respect the store. The most enjoyable part about this job was seeing customers smile, and my great coworkers.
sales associate (Former Employee) – Saucier, MS – May 25, 2016
its always fun working here because the children that come shop here. you get to see a diversity of cultures walking everyday and its nice to see that. co works are friendly as well. management is great too. if there's ever a problem it will be solve right then and there. the hard part of the job is just keeping up with the coupons but once you get the hang its easy. the most enjoyable part of working here for me was helping all the little kids find what they wanted going into the store.
good enviornment, good breaks
lunch break can be cut short if theres a rush of people
A fine place for a part time retail job, but not good for a career.
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) – Concord, CA – May 25, 2016
All Children's Place locations are seriously understaffed, and they expect store level management to do the job of 3 people.
In the 6.5 years I worked there. We went through 5 store managers and 2 district managers. 1 of the store managers transferred to a store closer to her home. 1 of the store managers was fired. The other 3 left after 6 months to 1.5 years. They left due to the poor working conditions.
I left because the district manager had a personal vendetta against her after I reported her to the regional director for breach of company policies.
- Easy. - Learned how to be a sales associate. - Manager was cool. - Coworkers are outgoing and fun to be around. - Never had a issue with the work to be done for this job. - I love that we receive discounts on the items because I have a 2 year old and that's the only place I shop for him.
Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee) – St. Louis, MO – May 24, 2016
The company has no idea what's its doing. There will be price changes every other night. Up to 4 times a week. And they don't look at the floor set when they do the price changes so you constantly have to move everything around. Store management has no control of the associates because it's almost impossible to write anyone up(and the associates know this) so there is no discipline. The SM & ASM do not get bonuses for making plan like with other companies.
This job is a very fast paced job. There are a lot of tasks to do throughout the day that pressures you to finish within time limits as well as multi task and deal with constant flow of customers. Associates do almost all the same tasks as Management with the exception of paperwork and project distribution. There is a lot of memorization that deals with the business aspect of the general work place as well as policies and procedures. Hours are run at a minimum depending on the volume level of the store.
Sales Associate (Former Employee) – Michigan City, IN – May 15, 2016
A typical day at work at the Children's Place consisted of customer service, cashier, stocking, and cleaning. I am familiar with these task due to my previous jobs. Overall, I enjoyed the customer service part of the job the most.
