Docent, Cleveland, OH - April 9, 2013
This is a volunteer position which you can use to step-ladder your way into paid positions at the museum. A typical day would be taking out a touch cart and setting it up in a gallery and then explaining the pieces and their significance to anyone who passes by or shows interest. I had to go through a year long training before i could take this position so I learned all about the different exhibits at the museum and how the Cleveland Museum has the only whole Haplosaurus skeleton in the world. I enjoy working with my co-workers greatly as we all enjoy learning new things and sharing that knowledge with others, though can can prove to be the hardest part of the job some days. It can be difficult to explain more advanced concepts to younger audiences but yet you still need to work your way through them which can become challenging. The most enjoyable part of the job though is the excitement seen on a child's face when they learn something new.
