Long hours, physical work, decent pay, great for a single man
Material Handler (Former Employee), Knoxville TN – May 16, 2013
Pros: good pay if you work hard, keeps the weight off
Cons: very long hours at peak season, little recovery time between shifts
Working at a large warehouse in the summer is hard, no doubt about it, but you can make quite a bit of money if you're willing to put forth the effort. They start you on an hourly wage for two weeks before basing your pay on your production. This gives you a chance to learn the ropes and get used to the heat. If you can throw a lot of cases in a shift – more... you can make a good amount of money.

Make no mistake-this is a very demanding job, physically. Women will find it very difficult as it requires a great deal of upper body strength and, sometimes, to work 13, 14, or 15 hour shifts. This can be a problem if you finish work at 9AM and have to be back at 2PM. However, once you get used to it the work doesn't take a whole lot of thought and there is an added benefit of getting very fit, very quickly. On the other hand, injuries can happen in a busy warehouse and some of the guys who had been there awhile had been worn down by the labor.

I ended up taking a different job after about a month and a half because it paid better and gave me more time with my family, but if it hadn't have come along I would have been glad to stay. The first week or so was hell, but it got better. The guys (and one gal) that I worked with were very cool, and most everybody was willing to help each other if something went wrong, which does happen. – less

Wanna get yelled at by managers for other peoples work and never have a balanced day?
Merchandiser (Current Employee), Carlstadt, NJ – May 16, 2013
Pros: unsupervised work, benefits, overtime
Cons: heavy workload, long hours, no flexibility in scheduling (cannot swap days with others), pay, scheduling, attendance policy
I work for (this is my last week) coca cola in NJ as a merchandiser. I've been with them over a year, still floated around to different stores. I'm forced to work sometimes an hour and a half travel time IN MY OWN VEHICLE NOT REIMBURSED. I haven't even had as much as a choice in my days off. Started off seasonal 10-hour days and going to school....was – more... offered fulltime, no mention of change in schedule. Went from 10 hour days to 8 hour days, still had the same number of stores? Usually an average of 4 stores and 1 re-hit....so that's 5 stops with half of them having multiple pallet deliveries. There is no regard for your work load or end time....sure the overtime is nice but if i need to get out and my stores aren't done, we have a mandatory 2 hour overtime which literally happens even day. Some day's ill "do them a favor" and work till it's all complete which will sometimes run 7-8 pm....and sure enough in my phone ill have a huge workload for the next day that happens to be 30 miles further than the last store.

happen to hit traffic in that hour commute? Penalized with a late. 3 lates? "step 1"...wanna come off step 1? 60 work days of perfect attendance, if you get 1 late in between then....60 days from that. another 3 lates? "step 2". so on and so forth. try making it to work early every day when you don't find out where you're working till sometimes that morning.

for a multi billion dollar company, they can at least afford to pay us to travel these distances. they used to, till Jan. – less

Great to work with the most known brand in the world, its fun but very demanding and challenging.
Country Manager Angola (Current Employee), Angola – May 15, 2013
Pros: creativity and inclusion
Cons: needs to retain talent better
Strong Culture and Brand identity within the company. Organized wih strong leadership and management routines to assure results. Results driven, with great passion for the brands and the people. Strong and firm ethics, supports diversity, gender equality and promotes work/life balance opportunnities.

Hardest part are the processes who like all big – more... companies get in the way of doing things quicker but the most enjoyable is the fum we have around planning how we make our brands loved by consumers. – less

Cons: work load/ tractor and trailer/ lyle and rob

Trailers are slow going up and down they smell like human waste. Your route will be 500 to 600 case or more day. With NOOOOOOOO help you will work 14hr a day. Other people will quit before you end your – more... training just so they can load you down. I don't want you to believe me go work there and find out yourself. – less

Productive work place.
Material Handler/Verifier (Former Employee), Savannah, GA – May 8, 2013
Pros: working at least a 40 hour work week and having an hour lunch break
Cons: being on my feet all day and it was hard to advance
A typical day at work was working very long hours and not knowing what time I will get off. I learned how to verify the products and making sure that the orders were correct. I had good time management skills because I was able to manage my work load with the amount of hours I was working per day. My coworkers were easy to get along with. Coca-Cola's – more... employees were team oriented and was willing to help others. The hardest part of the job was to work over 12 hours consistently. The most enjoyable part of the job was the pay check. – less

You will not have a Coca Cola smile if you are in the warehouse.
P/T Order Builder (Former Employee), Memphis, Tn – May 1, 2013
Pros: you can sit around on the clock and do nothing if you choose, but you will be there over into the next day.
Cons: the entire warehouse/company.
I thought FedEx was the worst. I was very wrong. Full timers do not have a set time to get off. If you work 1st shift, you will do the bulk of the work. As a woman, it isn't woman friendly and there's no opportunity for growth if you begin in the warehouse. Management is horrible. The plant manager is awesome though. They don't care about the employees – more... within the warehouse, only the work. Your schedule will change without notice. They posted my job because I turned in my two weeks but technically I'm still an employee. I am on vacation and I still have my badge. I still have until May 2 to retract my notice. I was forced to quit even though they threatened to let me go. If you see things going wrong and report it, they will find a way to get rid of you. I can go on and on but I believe you catch my drift. – less
