Not the culture you're hoping it's going to be...
Property Manager/Leasing Agent (Former Employee) –  North CarolinaJuly 25, 2017
They really do invest in training you well. However the second you're out of training, and even when you're still in it they want you to feel like your job is constantly being threatened. The turnover in all office positions from people getting let go or leaving because they're scared of losing their job is very high. If you like the culture and do well you'll be rewarded and there are real advancement opportunities. But if you're being recruited out of retail and thinking you'll be getting a better quality of life and a lower stress lifestyle; you won't be. Just getting Sundays off isn't worth it. It was a high stress and unethical culture.

Co-Workers and Residents are great but company is shady
Property Manager (Former Employee) –  Cleveland, OHJune 27, 2017
You will build excellent relationships with residents and some of your co workers. The pay is average for the amount of work you do. They have core values that they do not follow at all. The company makes a lot of money but not used on employees or fixing properties. They will work you to the bone. No matter how hard you work or give 200% it all comes down to who's butt is kissed and how fake you are.
If you are willing to be unethical this is the job for you. If you have strong ethics, stay away. They promise you the moon and back, but when you are not needed they will throw you out.
One day you are doing a great job, next day you are let go. Not once was told I was doing a bad job or even told if I was doing something wrong. There was no development or even an action plan on areas I was lacking. One can not improve if they do not know.
They lie to their residents. Pay residents off to write fake reviews. They also milk residents for everything. I mean everything. Make sure you read anything before you sign it. I had high hopes for this company because of all the reviews I read that were positive until I worked for them and totally know who they are from. You are even told do not speak to the owner at all. Only if he ask you a question directly other wise you are told to keep your mouth closed.
Pros
Benefits, Co-workers, and resident relationships you build
Cons
unethical, back stabbing

Property Manager (Former Employee) –  OhioJune 5, 2017
You can make really good money depending on the job and get some cool incentives. But the newest area mgr is awful! A horrible human being who will run you over on her way to the top every time. You cannot be a nice person and work for the Connor group because you won't make it.

Don't be fooled
Property Manager (Former Employee) –  OhioMay 11, 2017
The pay and original introduction to culture is great, but does not live up to expectations. Training is hit or miss. Some individuals seem to have a lot of time invested in them while others are overlooked. Work/life balance is supposed to be important, but you are looked down upon for trying to leave on time a couple days. Commitment is constantly questioned if you are not willing to ignore your personal opinions or previously scheduled engagements. Criticism only comes from above. Coaching up is not seen as a positive.

Profit Center Manager (Former Employee) –  Raleigh, NCFebruary 21, 2017
Pay and bonus are nice but not worth the cost. Long hours and minimal holidays off. Expectation is that you are on call at all times. You can go from a top performer to nothing in the flip of a coin. Very superficial managers that only care about profits and not true customer service. You will be put in situations that you have to question your own ethics.

Bait and Switch
Turn Technician (Former Employee) –  St. Louis Park, MNJanuary 6, 2017
This is a company that likes to promise the world and never deliver.
After 9 months of working there I had only received 2 weeks of training. The management does not listen to the needs of the maintenance team and the office feels like a high school popularity contest. Being on call for unspecified amounts of time made it impossible to have a life outside of work. There is no senior management staff or any qualified staff, everything is run by people who are new to this business and it is quickly falling apart because of that. Their reward and recognition system is also a lie
Pros
Good insurance. Great Co-workers in maintenance team.
Cons
Management is completely dishonest with employees and patrons

Corporate Counsel (Current Employee) –  Dayton, OHSeptember 27, 2016
The Connor Group is a fantastic employer if you are willing to constantly challenge yourself to be better! The pace and goals are demanding. Management and fellow employees will support you by providing any necessary training or resources, but you must have positive and determined attitude.

I have learned so much about real estate and business because of the Connor Group's desire to have employees succeed.

Amazing culture with amazing coworkers!
Regional Vice President (Current Employee) –  Dayton, OHAugust 31, 2016
The company culture demands that all coworkers perform at their highest levels at all time. The systems are in place to ensure success and the training programs are thorough to ensure success for all positions. The CEO is directly involved in the field. He is knowledgeable, approachable, and pushes each person to be their best each day. The most enjoyable part of the job is the people you get to work with both at the property level and your coworkers. We are very customer service oriented and thrive to provide great customer service always. This is the company for anyone that enjoys high expectations with high reward and recognition.

previous employee (Former Employee) –  Dayton, OHAugust 30, 2016
No work life balance at all. The say "retail pay without the hours" but you work 70+ on a good week. You take abuse and belittled at every turn by management then get beat up by the residents for their "shady" business practices. The positive reviews on here are from current employees they harass to leave a good review don't buy into the BS!!!!!

Property Manager (Current Employee) –  Raleigh-Durham, NCAugust 29, 2016
I have been working for The Connor Group as a Property Manager for almost 3 years. This is a fast paced work environment that has many pros to the position. You really get to run your own business.

There are many incentives to hit your goals every month. The Connor Group even gives you a profile to put items you would like for Reward and Recognition. In addition to regular bonuses, if you hit your goals, higher management can look up the items you have on your "wishlist" and send it straight to you. It's fantastic!

Former "not disgruntled" Employee
Leasing (Former Employee) –  MiamisburgAugust 24, 2016
There are some positives to working for this company. However, if you value work/life balance run... don't walk. Some of the maintenance practices are a little on the "shady" side. The whole repair, not replace philosophy is not more about padding the pocket book then saving the environment. The bonus and incentive program is decent and small value goals are well within reach, but don't reach for the big value goals it's impossible. The turnover is horrible, but if you are single and looking for a career it could be a good move for you. If you are not single and have a family or value your free time, again ... RUN.

Senior Area Manager (Current Employee) –  Minneapolis, MNAugust 12, 2016
I have worked for the Connor Group for 3 years! It is competitive and they do an amazing job with reward and recognition:) You are in charge of your own career path and you always know where you stand with current position as well. The corproate office is a fantastic support system. Unlike most large corporations, there is not a disconnect between the field and corporate. I can call and get help with any thing, I need at the property from any department. I am proud to work for the connor group and have worked with some amazing people here.

One of my favorite parts about working here are the people I work with. Everyone has always been very friendly and always willing to lend advice or a helping hand if needed. Very approachable and helpful. When everyone buys into the team culture like that, it makes for a very positive experience and motivates you to do the best job you can!

maybe ok in OH but not NC
slave (Former Employee) –  Charlotte, NCJune 28, 2016
This is a classic company that has a wonderful mission statement and follows NONE of it.

Just like someone else stated, this company will wrangle overtime out of you and finagle a way not to pay you for it. They will also insist that you place ads on line half the night to attract new residents...again unpaid.

They also figure out ways to wrangle extra money out of residents that imo border illegal. They make residents pay hidden fees (not mentioned before signing the lease)...well above what is typical and we are the ones that take the abuse for it.

Another fun fact, they will set goals that are literally unattainable. They do this so they can manipulate you and fill you with self doubt which they will later use to avoid giving you a raise. They will also continuously make you a nervous wreck and in fear of losing your job...because you can't reach the ridiculous goals.

The people I really felt sorry for were the maintenance men. They are treated like expendable work mules. They also have ridiculous unattainable goals. They hire people with no prior experience (to get them cheap) barely train them and then make them feel horrible if they aren't perfect in two weeks. The amount of turnover in that department speaks for itself.

A special note to the Conner Group:
Why don't your practice DOING the right thing rather than SAYING the right thing

Investor Development Director (Current Employee) –  Dayton, OHJune 6, 2016
This is a company that cares deeply about the success of its associates and rewards and recognizes in tangible ways. This is the exact right place for someone who works hard, wants to get ahead, does whatever it takes and will help anyone for anyone reason. It is not for people who are satisfied with status quo or who are "average" performers. It is a great group of people to work with and we share success company wide in multiple ways. Promotion all the way to equity partner are available whether you start as a groundskeeper, sales person, manager, maintenance tech, trainer, administrator or executive. In short, a great place for "people like us."
