Not good for bartenders
Bartender (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAApril 20, 2017
Hardly anyone tips well. You are payed hourly THANKFULLY because NO ONE tips well if you have enough business to get a tip at all. Out of 10 years of bar experience, this is the least paying of every bar that I have worked in.
Pros
Free food, pretty building
Cons
Horrible pay, rude and entitled guests, terrible management

Fitness Attendant (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VA 23226February 19, 2017
I would sign in members. I would clean of gym equipment for about 30 minutes. I would also change out the coffee machine. Management is pretty strict about policies.

CCV is a wreck...
Line Cook (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAJuly 21, 2016
Worked there for 4 or so years moving back and forth through all the kitchens. Former executive chef was an industry joke. The only people with substance were the former banquet chef, and the man who retired and came back. (He can work circles around you p.s.) But between the late Saturday nights working the Bal Du Bois or the Childrens Hospital.... man you can really be out back at that place. Worked some really great events with awesome people but never had enough time for a life outside of the club. Also if you are a minority...dont expect to be put in a position of management or lead. They will hire a dishwasher for the job you want before giving it to you. Im glad that place is in the gutter...

Productive Country Club
Cart Attendant (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VASeptember 29, 2015
As a cart attendant, my job was to attend members golf clubs and bring carts to them as needed. I learned to organize and manage my time with the necessity of obtaining structure from management and acknowledging the necessary procedures to complete my designated job. The hardest part of the job was being able to work with co-workers that were unable to complete their designated job to the best of their abilities. While the best part of the job was working with members of The Country Club of Virginia and giving them a great experience before they step foot on the golf course.
Pros
Being on a golf course
Cons
Long hours in the sun

Food & Beverage (Current Employee) –  James River ClubhouseAugust 19, 2015
I have been at the club a little over a year and it has been a great experience. The Culinary department is constantly evolving and there is always something new to do and learn. This is a great place for a line cook that really wants to take his/her career to the next level. I am surrounded by talent and the opportunity to learn is always there.
Pros
Opportunity for advancement, great work environment, talented culinary department, great one team attitude
Cons

Server (Current Employee) –  James RiverAugust 19, 2015
CCV is a great place to work! The members are great; very nice people that care about the success of the club and the staff members that contribute to that success. Hospitality is taken very seriously and you need to know what it takes to serve in a high end setting. Ex. proper rules of service, proper vocabulary, etc.

Management does a good job of helping the staff and maintaining a good working environment. Benefits for full time staff are great.

After working at other restaurants in the RVA area, I've realized that CCV is a hidden gem!
Pros
Great team, pay, benefits.
Cons

Distingushed Job in Hospitality for Resume
Restaurants (Current Employee) –  Richmond, VAAugust 18, 2015
CCV is a conservative, southern club. 98% of the members are great. Some members can be difficult. Club and hospitality jobs are not for everyone. The club, and the employees, are here for the members 364 days a year. The days can be long and you work weekends and holidays. As long as you understand that reality, have a good demeanor and like people, the club can be a great opportunity for you. There are many departments from grounds to F and B to Youth to Fitness and Golf. With so many departments you have room for growth. That being said, growth will not happen overnight. Over 40% of the Full-Time staff has worked at the club for over 10 years. Compensation could be better for the lower 3/4 of the employees. Healthcare, dental, vision and 401K benefits are good. Vacation is earned by every employee, PT or FT. It rolls over year to year and can be cashed out 100% when you leave the club (with notice and good standing). Overall, the club is a strong employer that brings a job with stability. Just understand you don't become a member when you get hired, you work.
Pros
Flexible Hours, Job Mobility, Vacation and Sick Time, Overall good environment
Cons
Work weekends and holidays, lack of work/life balance, environment depends of department

A great place to work
Food and Beverage (Current Employee) –  Richmond, VirginiaAugust 18, 2015
As a relatively recent hire, I thought it might be helpful to share some observations about working at CCV:

The Country Club of Virginia is an amazing club with two locations (Westhampton and the James River)- it is truly the extension of members living space and a comfortable place to be for both young and old. There are many facets of CCV and it means many things to many people but the biggest reflection of its success is that the children and grandchildren of members are members and it is central to their lives in Richmond.

CCV's motto is "An evolution to excellence through continuous improvement"- this could not be more true- it retains the traditional aspects of the club while always looking to grow. It's changes are "measured", but progress is a part of what makes this club wonderful.

Employees are the key to this clubs success- the grounds are beautiful, the buildings are very nice but the team that makes it happen is truly special. They are a mix of long tenured staff and new people like me- all working to make CCV a better place. Teamwork, a sense of commitment and a feeling that you belong to something worth belonging to- it's not just a job, its really a career choice. AND, you feel like your input matters- you are an important part of the organization.

Is the work easy- no, it's called work for a reason- but its rewarding- because it's being done in an environment that respects and appreciates what you do and how you do it.

I've worked here for a little while now- far shorter than many but I can already see what a special place this is and I am proud
more... to be a part of CCV and the team I am a part of.

Without reservation, if you are considering a position at The Country Club of Virginia, TAKE IT!

A Nice Starting Job for High School Students
Golf Cart Attendant (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAOctober 13, 2014
Not a bad starting job where people skills are needed. The job requires a variety of other skills that you don't necessary need to have before starting but can learn as you continue working throughout the summer with other like-minded workers.

Bartender (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAMay 5, 2014
I was treated with disrespect by the clients. CCV is a private club for rich people, who have no regard for the staff and, management isn't much better...they do cater to the whims of money.
Pros
Free lunch
Cons
The negativity
