When I joined The Dingley Press, they had less than 90 employees and when I left them 12 years later they had grown to more than 320 employees with multiple expansions. With this steady growth came the opportunities for employees to grow and develop. Although the pace was fast and somewhat unforgiving, turnover was high (50%), making the HR area feel like an employee processing center with employees coming in the front door and others leaving out the back door. We identified the larger contributing factors that lead to the turnover and put an action plan in place to retain some of the top talent we were loosing.
The hardest part of the job was not having the time or the opportunity to be more strategic, outside of the turnover initiatives. The President /CEO was the primary owner of the company and he cared a great deal for his employee base.
The most enjoyable part of the job was the self learning about the HR industry, processes and programs. Everyday provided me the opportunity to learn something new. By the end of my time with The Dingley Press, I had become very proficient in my role and was ready for the strategic side of HR.
Great company and great leadership!!
