endless opportunities
area manager (Current Employee), Chicago, ILApril 10, 2014
Pros: bonuses, promotion opportunites galore, and much much more
Cons: long hours at times
Hertz was my first "career" out of college, and I have worked my way up the past 4 years. The thing I like best about Hertz so far, is the fact that promotions are merit based, not seniority based. You also have BONUS potential the minute to step up to the counter, which is rare to find. You get out what you put in. There may be days that you're running – more... around like crazy, but at the end of the day you can look back and say, "I made it through, and it wasn't that bad"

You meet alot of interesting people, have great perks (company car when you reach Branch manager), and work with pretty stellar people. Plus, Hertz is expanding and this is creating so many opportunities to move up within a global organization!

I reccommend HERTZ! – less

Run the other way!
Management associate (Former Employee), Cleveland, OhioApril 8, 2014
Pros: there aren't any.
Cons: no personal life. stress. the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing.
Low pay, long hours, clueless managers who don't care about customer safety. Any bachelor's degree will get you in, so you have "managers" who know nothing about management or leadership for that matter. Drive with unsafe co-workers who text and drive or travel at unsafe speeds. Clean vomit from cars. Expect unrealistic sales goals. You think you'll – more... make $10 an hr PLUS enough bonuses to make it matter. Try $19 if you work your tail off & are lucky. Met some hard workers who never even got that much. Deal w/upset customers who have had their travel plans ruined because Yield Management doesn't manage the yield and cars that aren't there are reserved and you get the job of explaining to the customer why his family vacation is ruined. – less

Very pleasant place to work
Fleet Title Clerk (Former Employee), Philadelphia, PAApril 4, 2014
Pros: hour lunch and flexible hours
A typical day at work was processing all new cars, registering, copying, scanning, answering phone, data entry, ordering office supplies, etc. I learned how to work under heavy stress. My manager was great! Gave me a leading role and encouraged me to make decisions. I loved my job so I can't think of any part that was hard. The most enjoyable part of – more... my day was completing all tasks. – less

Ok Gig
Manager Trainee (Former Employee), East Moline, ILApril 3, 2014
Pros: good atmosphere, fun, challenging at times
Cons: pay
I really enjoyed the everyday work. If you don't know what you want to do with your life but love talking to people then this is the job for you. I didn't stay long enough to see how advancement worked. I don't think very many people stayed long enough for that. The long hours was the only thing that helped a paycheck. 30 hours of OT sure does make – more... the 10 or 10.50/ hour look bigger than what it is. I know that each Hertz location is different. I worked a few weeks at a different branch than my local one and it was god awful. This was mostly due to the other employees. – less

Not the best way to make a career
Counter Service Representative (Current Employee), Portland, ORMarch 25, 2014
Pros: great potential for money. the people you work with on your level are great to converse with.
Cons: that potential for money requires you perform extra hard, the next time around, you basically move the bar around on your own, no matter how good you are, if you have a good year then, the next year goals are extremely hard to reach, management here gets pressured with unrealistic goals
The only career there with any way of advancement is starting off as a manager. There are dozens of management positions and only a handful of grunt based positions. Easily overwhelming. If you don't like fast paced work that requires you to swallow you're morals and kiss a lot of butt, management and customers alike, you're in for a world of hurt. – more... If you can sell like no other, this is a good spot to be in. If only there were more staff, there wouldn't be issues regarding coverage when anyone calls in sick. As it is, one person down, you'll definitely feel the load and pressure. Also, you'll get burnt out really fast at the PDX location. Haven't seen much else outside this location to compare to. – less

Ideal for a first job
Management Trainee (Former Employee), PaMarch 24, 2014
Pros: holidays and weekends off
Cons: terrible management, short staffed, no breaks, no bonuses
I haven't worked for Hertz very long and I can see why there's horrendous turn over. No one I met during my time there was overly excited about the job and most were looking for ways out. The hours are long, the pay is low, and the expectations are ridiculous. Management will do anything to be away from the office and not solve problems. Promotions – more... are a joke unless they're desperate because someone quit. Bonuses are so out of reach until you are promoted and most people quit before they get there. Basically, you're working your butt off to get someone else a bonus who really doesn't deserve it. Plus you're cleaning cars in 6 inches of snow or pouring rain. It's ok for someone right out of college but for the rest of us, not ideal. – less
