Hire management that isn't inept and morally corrupt. I worked at Virginia Paving for years and watched the top management have inappropriate relationships with co-workers and even promote based on one relationship and demote someone who did a better job. I've seen that same management favor the few, and not others, threaten and then retaliate against employees if you didn't agree, when ultimately the things that went wrong should have been foreseen and managed ahead of time by the people with decision making power (upper management). A female foreman was essentially railroaded and ultimately fired by this management that probably can't even spell respect much less know it's definition. I would never, ever in good conscience recommend that any woman work in the field at Virginia Paving Stafford. Lane Construction is the parent company of VPC and it must be assumed that this type of conduct is considered acceptable or even starts with them and trickles down.
