The Foundation for Hispanic Education (formerly The NHU Foundation) was established in 1981 by the late Dr B Roberto Cruz with the mission of providing quality education and support for all underserved learners, with a focus on Latino students. The Foundation, through its three charter high schools, provides leadership in the education of English Language Learners and, through its Center for Latino Education and Innovation and its partnership with the University of Santa Clara School of Education and Psychology, develops specialized training programs for teachers of English Language Learners.
The Foundation schools currently enroll 725 students at its three campuses, with anticipated growth over the next three years to serve 1350 students. During this period of growth the Foundation expects to increase its teaching staff to 65 highly qualified teachers. Concurrently support staff will continue to grow with opportunities for advancement at all levels of service.

The Latino College Preparatory Academy (LCPA) In 2001, in response to the burgeoning Latino population in San Jose, TFHE established a bilingual charter school, LCPA. Since then, LCPA’s mission has been to enable underserved high school English Language Learners (ELL) to become bi-literate in English and Spanish and proficient in mathematics and science while remaining culturally responsive to ensure their ability to successfully complete requirements for a high school diploma and pursue post-secondary educational opportunities. LCPA had the goal to attract and maintain a cohesive teaching Familia, and to develop all teachers to become community responsive Master Teachers.
The Luis Valdez Leadership Academy (LVLA) is a new charter high school which will begin its third year of operation in the 2016-17 school year. LVLA is seeking to hire high-energy, passionate, visionary and dynamic teachers who will work closely with the founding faculty to build on LVLA’s positive school culture and college going climate. The third team of teachers will play a critical role in shaping the trajectory of the school and executing the mission and vision of LVLA and TFHE, the largest charter high school provider in San Jose. As LVLA continues to grow and flourish, there will be a tremendous focus on quality instruction and enhancing rigor. Each teacher will receive immense support, coaching and feedback from the director and dean, as well as from fellow LVLA teachers. The Roberto Cruz Leadership Academy (RCLA) opened its doors to one hundred ninth graders on August 2015. The focus of the school is to develop both students’ academic and leadership capabilities by instilling Dr. Cruz’ sense of Familia in each and every stakeholder. Students will graduate bilingual and bi-literate in Spanish while developing their 21st Century skills. The ideal RCLA teacher is well-versed in both their subject area and teaching strategies that foster success in English Language Learners (ELLs). RCLA teachers are well-rounded, experienced and share their extra-curricular interests with students; enjoy mentoring students; and are dedicated to creating and fostering a positive school culture and college-going climate. RCLA teachers should possess a good balance between being able to work independently and being a positive and contributing member of a team.
