Diagnostic Transportation (Former Employee), Columbus, OHAugust 20, 2014
Pros: never a dull moment
Cons: breaks are limited, sometimes it feels like you carry the load more than others.
I worked as a student diagnostic transporter which didn't allow me to receive union benefits or pay. I did gain experience in the medical field by interacting with various levels of employees and managers. This position is labor intensive as you will be on your feet most of the day.

Employment Specialist (Former Employee), Columbus, OHJuly 18, 2013
Pros: health benefits, childcare discount, sports events tickets, location
Cons: pay scale
At OSUMC I helped recruit nurses and some non-clinical staff. I screened applications, checked references and certifications, and scheduled interviews daily. I had to be extremely organized in order to complete my work. My supervisor provided me with challenges including performing phone interviews for student positions. I worked within a team of three – more... individuals in the recruiting department. The other individuals in my position also considered ourselves as team members. We met weekly to ensure that each part of the hospital was recruited consistently and that any conflicts were resolved in a timely manner. I learned the value of teamwork most of all. Without my co-workers I do not believe I would have been so successful. I also learned a lot about the HR field and how to help the hospital achieve its goals. The most difficult part of that position was trying to staff three new floors of the hospital in a matter of months. We had to quickly screen and hire candidates while abiding by the nurse's union laws and helping the IT and payroll teams keep up with our hiring numbers. The most enjoyable part of that position was that I was valued. Each meeting with my co-workers and boss brought new accomplishments and goals. – less

OSU is a positive and fun work place with great co-workers and management.
Medical Assistant (Current Employee), Columbus, OHMay 23, 2013
Pros: helping people
Cons: short and sometimes no breaks
Typical days at work for me consist of rooming patients and taking vitals. Some days I may have to remove staples or stitches. Depending on the Doctor that I am working with that day I would also apply and remove cast. And sometimes if we are short staff I would work the front desk. I have learned how to be a great team player. I have also learned that – more... it is ok to ask for help if needed. Management here at The Ohio State University Medical Center is great. If we have any problems with patients or Doctors, as well as patients we can easily go talk to her and she will happily help in resolving the situation. My co-workers are the best! We joke and have fun and assist in helping getting our work done every single day. I work in the Orthopedics department, so we deal with a lot of patients in pain on a daily bases. I would have to say the hardest part on my job is letting a patient know that we can’t give them anymore pain medication. Over all I really like my job, my manager, my co-workers and helping my patients so I would say that those 3 factors are the most enjoyable part of my job. – less

Pros: physicians, level one trauma center, transplants, cancer treatment and, research
Cons: lack of management holding staff accountable
During my time at OSU, I witnessed and cared for patients involved in amazing medical advancements. There are many wonderful doctors and nurses working in that hospital. I was very fortunate to be a part of OSU and watch them help to improve both the patients quantity and quality of life.

Pros: great benefits
Cons: healthcare, short breaks
I come in and work 7 pm-7am and each night its the same routine its organized into each task completed at a certain time, blood draws, vitals etc.
I have learned a lot the most important i have learned is patience.
Management is alright it could be a lot better they are adaptable to your needs.
Co-workers are great a lot of team work.
Hardest part of – more... my job is dealing with patients who do not survive its tough to see their families hurt and see patients in pain.
The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing patients and see them walk out of the hospital feeling better and ready for going home and continue at home receiving the care and keep getting better. – less

Customer Service (Former Employee), Columbus, OHMay 17, 2012
Pros: flexibility
Cons: finding parking
Working for The Ohio State Medical Center was very wonderful. I learned a lot of valuable life lesson. For example, there are two things should not be apart of work enviornment, dry humor and sarcasm; my manager at the time said that in a meeting. I learned how to work with and interact will all kinds of people. The management was wonderful and very – more... flexiable and aware of the employee needs. My co workers were also wonderful. The hardest part of my job was resigning from my position; however, it was necessary in order for me to complete my degree. I really enjoyed every aspect of my job. – less
