Best of the hospitality industry
Baker (Former Employee) –  Half Moon Bay, CAFebruary 21, 2016
The company overall is great. They have good ethics towards their employees and take care of them with great benefits and make a point of paying above the local pay rate. People who want to advance and voice it are put on track quickly. With properties all over the world you can basically live where ever you want. However, how well your work environment is, really depends on the property and your immediate manager. Some properties are good for ambitious people who like to try new things, every thing fresh and current. Other properties are more of a don't rock the boat and you can keep your head down till retirement, stagnate and not open to change. Overall if you like hospitality service it's a great company. You just may have to transfer every two years until you find the perfect property for you. You can't beat the hotel and travel discounts on top of all the other great things that come in your benefits package. Health coverage is great and the 401k package is great as well. They start matching after only a year or two.

Overall an awesome company to work for!
Stewarding (Former Employee) –  Miami Beach, FLFebruary 29, 2016
A typical day to work at the Ritz Carlton was awesome! I learned to except responsibility and I learned what it means to work in that type of environment. The co-workers was really nice and helpful. The hardest part was the heavy lifting but the co-workers were really helpful and mindful of that. The best part of the job was I was able to move around to the different parts of the kitchen and I got to help the other chefs and servers.
Pros
Free lunch and the benefits was awesome
Cons
The work schedule was always changing

Front Desk Agent (Current Employee) –  Boston, MAJanuary 29, 2016
Overall, a great place to work especially for mid-career or college grad advancement. Most in housekeeping, stewarding, residences, and in-room dining stay for 10 + years. FOH operations cycle through employees every 1-3. Many stay for the experience and name to apply for better opportunities elsewhere.
Pros
Free employee dining, benefits, location

Member Services Advisor/Team Lead (Former Employee) –  Salt Lake City, UTDecember 7, 2015
When you first start, you get the company credo, employee promise, and service values. They are fantastic! The implementation of them is seriously lacking. After the initial new employee feeling wore off, the leadership seemed to be reluctant to fight for you if you had a problem or question. They are great people but don't seem to take what the brand says to heart. You are also secluded from the rest of the Marriott family making it difficult to even make lateral moves.
Pros
Hotel benefits, health care, and security
Cons
lack of leadership and no way to advance in the department or out of the department

Customer Care & Sales Associate (Current Employee) –  Salt Lake City, UTNovember 21, 2015
The job is easy enough, take calls and make reservations while making the guest happy. The difficult part is trying to juggle work and any life you have outside of work. The schedules change monthly so you may have an actual weekend off one month but the next you have two days off in the middle of the week. The pay seems fair until you see that other call centers pay more for doing the same amount of work. The discounts at Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels are nice but because of your ever changing schedule it can be difficult to take advantage of those benefits.
Pros
Awesome hotel rates, Friends and Family rates
Cons
Pay is low, schedules change monthly.

Young, fun and relaxing atmosphere to work
Recreation Attendant (Current Employee) –  Dana Point, CAJanuary 7, 2016
I've had this job since I started college and it has been nothing but wonderful to me. Great, flexible hours during school year, while offering tons of hours during summer time. Atmosphere is relaxing and fun. Employees were all near the same age group and which made it easier to get through a long, hot summer day. Work was hard, but not unmanageable. Great college job.
Pros
Free lunch, great hotel benefits
Cons
long days, hot days, will tire you out

Lay Offs frequent
Lackey (Former Employee) –  Greensboro, GAJanuary 16, 2016
Lay offs for elderly happen so that full benefits cannot be utilized. Not very family oriented for employees. Awards given to Corporate for family values are soooo overblown.

Managers are overworked and underpaid

HR is in GMs pocket
