  • In April, @wesavesight presented The University of Kansas Health System with its 2016 Excellence in Eye Donation Award. Our Donor Advisory Council helped facilitate 85 eye donation cases last year, which resulted in 113 individuals receiving restored sight through a cornea transplant. This is the third year that we've been honored for achievements in providing the gift of sight to those in need of a cornea transplant. #EEDA2016
  • CardioMEMS is an advanced tool to monitor people with heart failure. • Neuropsychologist Dr. Caleb Pearson says you can lose a finger and still be “you.” But if you lose an important part of your brain, it can change who you are. He uses brain mapping technology to give surgeons a complete picture of a person’s unique brain structure during surgery. This approach helps minimize speech, vision and memory side effects for patients with brain tumors, epilepsy and other disorders. Learn more about specialized mapping tools. Link ➡️bio.
  • #NationalVolunteerWeek spotlight: Within three weeks of retiring from Garmin, Diane Klenke found a volunteer role at The University of Kansas Health System. At Garmin, Diane was used to walking five miles a day delivering mail. Thus, the volunteer Pathfinder position was a natural fit for her. Now, Diane gets her daily mileage in by escorting patients and visitors to their destinations throughout the health system. Why volunteer here? Diane wanted people to experience the same caring attitude she received from the dedicated professionals in the nephrology department who cared for her husband, Ken, when he had two kidney transplants and two open heart surgeries. Ken and Diane celebrated anniversaries, birthdays and many holidays at the main hospital. Given that she and her family spent so much time at the hospital with her late husband, it feels like home to her. That’s why Diane’s committed to helping people feel welcome as soon as they walk through the doors. Thank you for volunteering, Diane! #volunteerweek #volunteer #volunteering
