Captionist/Transcriptionist, San Antonio, TX - July 11, 2017
As a captionist/transcriptionist with Student Disability Services at UTSA, it's fun providing captioning services and being a go-between for the student and professor. Normal day of work: attending a set schedule of classes for different students and providing captioning services, usually with a partner. I learned that nuances and details are important, but it's usually the big picture that needs to be brought across. What you type is an important factor in what the student learns. Sometimes it's hectic because a student may not attend class and not inform the SDS office or the captionists ahead of time. Management is fine; workplace culture is healthy. The hardest part of the job is not having enough consistent hours; this is a part-time position. Most enjoyable part of the job is working with the students in their class or field of interest.
