management creates strees when none is needed
Key Holder/Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  Salisbury, MDFebruary 21, 2017
Not a hard job at all, but management and district management puts a lot of unneeded stress on the employees. Forces sales people to sell to customers whether they need something or not. If you push against this they push you out.

A great way to gain retail experience
Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Cupertino, CAFebruary 19, 2017
I had never worked in retail prior to working at the Vitamin Shoppe. I basically learned everything I needed to here at the VS. The store I worked at was brand new, so together, we both were able to build ourselves up. The team I worked with was great and the environment was pretty chill. They had placed us in kind of a bad area, with too much competition around us, so it was hard to gain sales.

The only thing that didn't work well for the company is management. The district managers, regional managers, etc. They seemed to all lack what a leader really is. My DM couldn't even do basic operations, that looked really bad on her. They shut down your creative ideas, they hardly ever tell you you're doing a great job and they can never tell you anything great about you and/or the store.

Overall, I am thankful for working there but upper management needs to be cleaned out and people who actually have a VISION and want to help stores succeed need to come in.

Great supplement knowledge
Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Baytown, TXOctober 29, 2016
The company itself is great. Manger doesn't close Friday or Saturdays. Doesn't work shipment either. If you become sick, she becomes sick too. It's annoying. The company pays half of your insurance and great benefits. Overall the company is great, working at this location I would definitely reconsider.

Excellent benefits and room for advancement, salary low for area/cost of living
Store Manager (Current Employee) –  Studio City, CAJanuary 2, 2017
The Vitamin Shoppe is overall an excellent place to work; the company is committed to developing and advancing its staff, and with hard work one can move from a Key Holder (Shift Supervisor) up to Store Manager within eighteen months or less. They make a real effort to promote from within, which puts them ahead of many other retail organizations. The benefits package is very good, as well.

The salary is, unfortunately, not in line with the high cost of living in Los Angeles. Although they have a bonus plan, the bonus is small and few stores in the company hit it. I am one of the few Managers to make bonus, but there is no guarantee this will continue, as the supplements industry is down-trending, an issue made all the more difficult by the large hit the industry has taken from online retailers such as Amazon and Bodybuilding.com
Pros
Environment, advancement, benefits
Cons
Salary, low bonus, industry in a slump

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Jensen Beach, FLSeptember 26, 2016
Has good store hours and has very knowledgeable employees. They train you to have great knowledge of vitamins and supplements. YOu have to help keep the store clean, educate and greet customers, upsell products and put away inventory as per there are two product deliveries a week. Great benefits, and room for advancement with the company.
Pros
benefits and product education
Cons

Great place
Key-holder- Part Time (Current Employee) –  Voorhees, NJNovember 16, 2016
Great place to work. You just need a certain mentality and/or personality to work there. If you are a very reserved or laid back person, they tend to not want to keep you around as much. Their emphasis is customer service but their belief is that their employees need to be over the top.

as a part timer, the hardest thing you have to do is learn where each product is and be ready for a weird question about a supplement. youll get the hang of it within 2 months, ive been working here about a year now without getting promoted and its tiring because ive been told to always be doing a good job.
Pros
good raises, discounts.
