Great opportunity to help others. Management can be quite difficult.
Key Holder (Former Employee) –  Saginaw, MIAugust 16, 2017
The job is great. Depends on location and personnel. It is a good option for trying to help people. My location had few employees and there was a lot of gossip and backstabbing.
Pros
Decent discount
Cons
Don't get breaks other than your lunch, If you work over ten hours you get two half hour lunches or a solid hour, little control over when you actually get it though

Good so far
Health Enthusiast (Current Employee) –  IdahoAugust 16, 2017
Been there about a month , so far so good. Pay could be better but there are opportunities for raises. They expect you to complete x amount of these online "classes" while at work, and if you do you get a raise, but when the store is busy and you can't find time to do them, you get shafted. Other than that the people are good and I don't dread going to work.
Pros
Employee discount, laid back, good people
Cons
Hard to complete classes

Great overall place
Assistant Manager (Current Employee) –  anonomousAugust 14, 2017
The Vitamin Shoppe is overall a great place to work. The only problem is you have to watch out for bad managers just like any place. The store managers are on salary and sometimes some of them will take advantage of that. They will take extremely long breaks, or show up late. Sometimes just call out and not even put in their request off and act as if they did show up so they use the vacation day at another time. The work is easy and very rewarding as the knowledge you get. I love to work here but the bad management will cause me to leave. I can not stand laziness and if the District managers do not take action and look and see what store managers are doing then this will continue to happen.

Good entry level management company
Store Manager (Current Employee) –  New JerseyAugust 7, 2017
Overall, the front line management advancement is a big plus. Once Store manager, it is very hard to advance from there. Typically salary is above average for the work load but pressure from senior management makes the job difficult at times. Very unclear future path and many people in the corporate office are on different pages. The CEO has a strong idea of where the company needs to be but seems disconnected from the rest of the corporate environment. Store teams are enjoyable to work with. Great entry level job experience inside retail management. Very political driven environment.
Pros
Work/life balance, flexible scheduling, compensation
Cons
management gets stressed and the front line staff feels the wrath

I worked as a Sales-Associate at the Vitamin Shoppe, and I'm not compensated nearly enough for what they expect employees to do. Corporate takes advantage of everyone.

Engaging Workplace; Perfect place to learn and teach
Part-Time Manager (Current Employee) –  Fairless Hills, PAAugust 6, 2017
One of the biggest draws to the company was the ability to learn about the products I was selling to customers. Although it is a lot and can get overwhelming, it got much easier. Some of the hardest issues of the job include the value of the employee, which is lacking. Memorization is key.

Transfer to a new state
Key Holder/Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  West Palm Beach, FLAugust 5, 2017
The saddest part of my job was that the state to state transfer is not strongly supported nor guaranteed. When re-applying, the web site is not user friendly and the techs are not generally helpful. However, if you can get past all of that and be hired at a job fair, it is a great place to work!

Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  Larkspur, CAAugust 4, 2017
This was one of my favorite jobs, and I've had a ton so that's saying a lot. I always felt like the people there were like family. We all worked together as a team to achieve goals. For a retail store it was such an awesome place to work! I will never forget my years of working there, opening new stores, helping with remodels, etc.

Fun and laid back place to work for. Open 7 days a week, but can schedule life around work as you're not saving any lives - hopefully just making them healthier and last longer.
