The Western Institute for Neurodevelopmental Studies and Interventions (WINSi) in Boulder, CO is looking to hire a qualified individual on a full-time basis as Recreational / Social Skills Therapist.

WINSi is a multidisciplinary intervention program for students with learning and behavior problems. It is staffed by a team composed of a neuropsychiatrist, neuropsychologist, speech-language therapist, occupational therapists, and well-trained language therapists and teachers. Students attend our Intensive program five days per week, from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm, where they work on an individualized program, one-on-one with language therapists (supervised by a speech/language pathologist) and an occupational therapist. In addition, there are four recreation therapy/social skills sessions: three brief (15-minute) sessions which occur each hour and one longer lunch session. These sessions are an integral part of the program as they provide an opportunity for students to engage in active games and practice social interactions. This provides them with the opportunity to have fun and engage in social interactions with peers. The therapist who manages these sessions must enjoy playing with kids of all ages and be able to provide tactful, effective therapeutic supervision. Brief written summaries of each student’s behavior in these sessions are required. The therapist will be trained by, and work under the supervision of the staff psychologist and other senior staff.

In addition to managing the recreation/social skills sessions, the candidate will be expected to assist in a variety of administrative tasks under the supervision of the Operations Manager. This will involve providing support for the senior staff, assist in patient care, entering data, editing documents, etc. A good candidate for this position will be a bright, enthusiastic, and energetic individual who is effective, flexible, and gets along well with children and adults.

Job Requirements:

  • Assist in a variety of administrative tasks, including (but not limited to) data entry and document editing
  • Supervise recreation therapy/social skills sessions
  • Full-time availability

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Background in psychology, speech-language, linguistics is helpful
  • Enthusiasm and creativity
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to deal with a variety of students, patients, and parents
  • Excellent computer skills, especially with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
