Wistar, an independent non profit biomedical research institute located adjacent to the University of Pennsylvania’s campus in Philadelphia, was founded in 1892 as the first institution of its kind devoted to biomedical research and training and is recognized today as an international leader in basic biomedical research, most especially in areas related to cancer.

There is a current opening for a Senior Systems Administrator

This position is an essential part of the IS department and is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of server systems hardware and software and related infrastructure including Windows based storage servers, database servers, email servers and collaboration servers. This individual also designs implements and maintains virtual server systems and manages the Wistar list server. In addition, the Senior Systems Administrator participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This person ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values and established procedures.

Education: Requires BS/BA in computer science or related discipline or equivalent experience.

Experience: Five or more years of experience within the following areas: Windows systems administration and maintenance; Microsoft Active Directory; systems and virtual machine administration/operations; hardware/software support; and Windows OS support

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or other Qualifications: MCSE: Server Infrastructure or MCSE: Sharepoint preferred, extensive knowledge of software packages (word processing, spreadsheet, database management, and imaging software), operating systems (Mac OS, Linux, Windows XP through 8 plus Server 2003, 2008 and 2012), hardware (PCs, Macs, printers and network hardware), networking concepts (Ethernet, AppleTalk, switching hubs, category 5 6 cabling, TCP/IP), and HTML programming experience required.
