About Thompson's Moving & Storage
Thompson's Moving & Storage found its origin back in the early 1930's by Clarence Thompson. His interest in the trucking business began while working for his uncle in Chelmsford, Massachusetts delivering ice in the summer and coal in the winter. By the age of 26, Clarence's entrepreneurial spirit had driven him to purchase a 1931 Chev truck and – more... he began working for himself hauling gravel and pulpwood. After a year or so however, Clarence realized that there was a very limited future in what he was doing so he purchased a 1934 Ford truck, put a tarp on the back, and decided to attempt hauling freight to and from Halifax.
Coincidentally, this decision would prove to be a pivotal turning point for Clarence Thompson because on April 15, 1934 he embarked on a journey with his first load of freight. The trip was from the corner of Sackville and Bedford Row in Halifax, and was destined for Middleton. It was only a 100-mile jaunt from Halifax to Middleton, however at the time the roads were primarily gravel, so the trip took four "bumpy" hours.
Like a lot of success stories, Clarence's came from humble beginnings and the first few years were characterized by long hours, hard work, and low pay. By 1935 Clarence had an addition to his fleet when his brother Balsor came aboard. Over the course of the next few years the brothers had a birds-eye view of the growing success of their hard work, and saw it purchase new vehicles as well as begin to hire more employees. – less – More from ZoomInfo »
