BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SPECIALIST
The Behavioral Health Specialist will provide age appropriate, culturally and linguistically competent, comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment for mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence and medical needs. He/she will provide peer/family counseling and support, screening, assessment, brief treatment by utilizing the IMPACT (Improving Mood Promoting Access to Collaborative Care Treatment) Model, consultative services, education and engagement, and referrals/linkages to services as needed.
The Behavioral Heath Specialist will participate and provide ongoing consultation and training in older adult mental health and to primary care staff. He/she will be responsible for maintaining current listings of community resources in order to meet the needs of the target population and will develop and maintain a collaborative working relationship with providers of older adult services. With the help of a Community Health Outreach Worker, the Behavioral Health Specialist will develop and conduct community education and outreach activities. Other responsibilities are to participate in case conferences with primary care staff to provide assistance and consultation on mental health issues affecting patients and will participate in other staff meetings needed to achieve program development and evaluation.
The position requires a Master’s Degree in Counseling or Social Work. Must be a ASW, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Psychologist, minimum 3-5 years experience and prior experience working with older adult population within ethnically and culturally diverse families. Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred. Position also requires moderate physical activity such as sitting, traveling, walking, driving, bending, lifting and computer usage. The applicant should be able to work independently and have the ability to problem solve, make decisions and handle multiple priorities. The position requires interpersonal skills with co-workers and with client families in a variety of settings and ability to organize tasks. Must possess a valid CA Driver’s License, auto insurance, and willing to accept travel assignments on the job as directed by the program.
The Behavioral Health Specialist must have knowledge of health information related to its client population, demonstrate desire to work with an ethically diverse population, ability to work as a team member with co-workers and agency staff, demonstrate cultural sensitivity and understanding of special adult issues.
