Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center (TVHC, Inc.) is a premier provider of community-based healthcare in So. Alameda County. Our Early Childhood and Parenting Teens Mental Health Program under the Early Prevention Screening Detection Treatment (EPSDT) provides services for families with infants and children 0-6 years old and for adolescent teen parents working with developmentally at risk children. This may be accomplished directly through provision of child and family therapy and/or individual therapy (teen parents) and services are frequently client home based services.
We are currently inviting applications for the Mental Health Worker II providing in-home mental health services for infants and children (0-6) with their family as well as provide mental health services for pregnant and parenting teens. Clientele served will include the entire TVHC, Inc. service area and population as well as referrals from other community and County agencies within Hayward, San Leandro, Union City, Fremont and Newark.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of the Mental Health Worker II include, but are not limited to providing specialized mental health services to families, participation in a Multi-Disciplinary team, consulting with team members on mental health issues under the direction of the team supervisor. The Mental Health Worker II will evaluate needs of infants, children, parents, and other family members for mental health and support services, based on direct interview, observations and interactions with the family and/or discussion with other staff members who interact with the family. In addition, will be required to provide psychological/developmental assessment for infants and children, and prepare reports. Other duties may include but are not limited to participating with other staff in multidisciplinary staff meetings, retreats and other staff processes to achieve program development, staff development, program evaluation, program operations review and other activities needed to maintain quality of early intervention services. In addition, the position requires the incumbent to assist families in accessing other needed services, including referral for more intensive psychological support services if needed. Performs all duties in support of successful INSYST and Clinician's Gateway input of paperwork and program billing requirements. Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate must possess the desire to work with an ethnically diverse child, family and adolescent population, bilingual in English/Spanish highly preferred. Proven knowledge of Early Childhood Mental Health. Must possess cultural sensitivity and understanding of special infant, child and youth issues. Previous experience working with populations within ethnically and culturally diverse families.
Master's Degree in Counseling or Social Work required. Minimum experience between 3-5 years wherein knowledge and skills have been honed in: psychology, counseling, or social work; infant, child and family mental health interventions; infant and child behaviors and group facilitation. Position requires moderate physical activity such as sitting, traveling, walking, driving, bending, lifting, and computer usage. Position requires ability to work independently, organize tasks, problem solve, make decisions, and handle multiple priorities. Position requires significant interpersonal skills with co-workers and with client families in varied settings, including office, client homes, and in the community. Valid California Driver's License, auto insurance and willing to travel within our service area for home based services.
