TMF Health Quality Institute focuses on promoting quality health care through contracts with federal, state and local governments, as well as private organizations. For over 40 years, TMF has helped health care providers and practitioners in a variety of settings improve care for their patients.
TMF was chartered in 1971 as a private, nonprofit organization of licensed physicians (MDs and DOs) to lead quality improvement and medical review efforts in Texas. Originally known as the Texas Medical Foundation, the company changed its name to TMF Health Quality Institute in 2005 to reflect the expansion of its work throughout the nation.
Since 1984, TMF has been the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Quality Improvement Organization for Texas, improving care provided to Medicare beneficiaries through cooperative efforts with the health care community. In 2001, TMF started performing on-site quality assurance activities for state Vaccines for Children programs and has since conducted this work in six states. TMF began serving as a subcontractor to Texas’ health information technology Regional Extension Centers in 2010, offering technical assistance and information on best practices to providers implementing electronic health records. As a subcontractor to the American Institutes for Research, TMF in 2011 began managing learning communities and improvement networks in which provider organizations are testing new models of care and payment delivery being developed by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation. Also in 2011, TMF acquired C2C Solutions, Inc., a Medicare Qualified Independent Contractor specializing in the handling of payment resolution disputes between health care providers and insurance companies. – less
