Animal Care Intern, Topeka, KS - May 12, 2015
Interning here is a great first internship for anyone who wants to work in the animal care field. You learn all the areas of the zoo, work with the keepers, complete an intern project, ask any questions to the keepers as much as you want, assist with major projects, watch animal training sessions up close, and watch the children's interactions with the animals at the Children's zoo. I had a great time here, the keepers lounge has an immense library about animals and all the keepers are really cool. The intern seminars are great learning experiences. Volunteered when I could for other aspects of the zoo but fair warning to the spring break camp, you have to love kids to do that one.I even got to assist in feeding a baby tiger when the mother's mammary glands became chapped/red.
