Operator (Current Employee) –  Carville, LA 70721August 10, 2017
If you value a home life, stay away from Total. They are short on operators and do not want to fill the voids. Operators are forced to work their days off which gets old fast.

Management has a "Their way or the highway" attitude. They make an adult company turn into a high school based mentality with the cliques they form.

Their training program for new employees is horrible and they rush you to get certified even if you are not ready.
Pros
Competitive pay
Cons
Overtime, management, poor training

Unit Shift Leader Tech Tester (Current Employee) –  Port Arthur, TXJune 6, 2017
Good company and room to advance with hard work there are always new positions and they would always rather promote from within though you are required to work a minimum of two years in your current position before you can apply for a different position

Great company to work for however Accounting Mangers are not the best. Enjoyed working downtown Houston. The office was nice and the company was great with the damage from Hurricane Ike which destroyed our work areas.
Pros
Great Location, Nice Co-workers

Lab Supervison/Fuels Compliance (Current Employee) –  Port Arthur, TXJune 16, 2016
Total has provided a good living for many years and allowed advancement to a point. It is a French company still in the grip of the turmoil of moving from a middle tier E&P/Petrochemical company to an oil major after absorbing Fina and Elf about 15 years ago. There are not many opportunities for advancement for those who did not attend school in France or for those who do not wish an overseas assignment. But, all-in-all it has been a good place to work.
Pros
Good work atmosphere
Cons
Turmoil, lower pay than some other major oil companies

Process Operator/ OM&S Dept. Terminal Operator (Current Employee) –  Port Arthur, TXNovember 18, 2012
Tensions run high among hourly vs salary(mgt)employees. Safety is stressed from mgt but it is expected that the job be done by any means necessary as safely as possible to meet deadlines. Working in a team enviroment with my cowokers is the best part of my job.
Pros
free overtime lunches
Cons
rising cost of health care insurance

A typical day at Total Petrochemicals, Inc. is pretty ordinary. I have worked for the company for 12 years and there just isn't much room for advancement. The hardest part of the job is the shift work and the most enjoyable part is the coworkers.

coworkers
