Traffic Plan is a good company, but as of late they are taking on more work in remote areas, which requires travel. Traveling adds up to 3 to 4 hours a day at times, this can create scheduling issues. There is an uncertainty in near future ; full time work may not be available. We work in a construction related industry and in the event of prolonged poor weather we may not work full time.
A typical day at work would includes traveling to a work site (up to 3 hours) , surveying work site, erecting between 8 to 12 signs, cones and barriers. Tasks must me completed in a timely manor. All work on the site cannot begin until the work zone is secured. Challenges include, working in a very dangerous environment, often busy streets with heavy vehicular traffic. Motorist often become hostile when we need to make them wait. Motorist are too often very careless, often looking at cell phones. This puts us in great danger. Challenges include, dealing with undertrained personnel, employee turn-over is very high. We cannot leave until the road is secure ( no holes, trenches, or equipment in road ). I have had days go as long as 14 to 16 hours. It is not uncommon to have new hires who quit, by the end of day, or within a week or two. Bathroom facilities are often not available, and relief personnel may not be available. The most enjoyable part of the job is being out doors during pleasant weather, however this creates another issue during cold winter months, rain storms etc.
