UNFAIR AND ILLEGAL PRACTICES
EMT-B (Current Employee), Mount Vernon, NYOctober 9, 2014
Pros: nothing.
Cons: no union, over-worked/underpaid, no breaks, unfair compensation
Transcare is an AWFUL company to work for. I work out of the Mt. Vernon base. The dispatchers are the B word with control issues. The office/ turn-out staff constantly demonstrate favoritism among employees. EVERYONE SLEEPS AROUND WITH EACH OTHER! Even the married people. It's the company culture. Very inappropriate, RACIST comments against African – more... Americans and women practiced by turn-out coordinators and the Mt. Vernon 911 employees who "hang out" at the base. Even the "N" word is tossed around!!! Extremely childish office staff. Very vindictive supervisors. HOSTILE work environment. Rules don't apply to everybody. Turn-out employees that are NOT EMTs ACTUALLY ARE ALLOWED TO RESPOND TO 911 CALLS WHEN COMPANY IS SHORT STAFFED!!!! You will feel very defeated working here. Take your tech card to FDNY. RUN FROM THIS PLACE!!! – less

Unprofessional, Discriminatory, Horrific place to work
Doesn't matter (Former Employee), Poughkeepsie, NYSeptember 27, 2014
Pros: close to train and bridge- easy commute
Cons: location, and everything imaginable
I had the unpleasant experience to work here for what felt like a lifetime! Your typical days revolves around selfish, childish coworkers and managers who stab a knife in your back the minute they are given a chance. They set you up for failure! If you have any experience in the Emergency medical response field, please take my advice and look elsewhere!! – more... I can say to you this place is horrific, dirty, a hole in the wall and the management is non-existant and worthless. EMT's who are injured on the job are either shunned, permentantly disabled due to negligence and forced to file charges against the company or are put on a pedestal and felt sorry for. The ambulances are glorified vans that are always broken down as they take parts from one to fix another. A sorry excuse for mechanics. Their pay rate stinks, the benefits cost you an arm per week and a leg per doctor/dentist office visit. Their 401k is a joke. This place is a free for all and should be avoided at all costs. That is if you like to work, are honest and feel good about getting a paycheck that you deserved and earned.. Dont apply to this place!! Oh and did I mention, there may be some days you have to bypass the road as there are shootings, stabbings, drug deals and high school kids fighting on or near the street. – less

clinical ride time (intern) (Former Employee), Philadelphia, PASeptember 17, 2014
Transcare was a transport company with 1 Paramdic to 1 EMT per truck. Majority of calls were for transporting needs to different medical facilities such as dialysis, chemotherapy etc. The gentlemen there had such a passion for supporting these patients who were very ill and in need of 24 hour care. These gentlemen were very well known in the facilities – more... as well as known by the patients for they're respect and quality care. – less

Great Job Bad Security
EMT-Basic (Former Employee), Bronx, NYJuly 20, 2014
Pros: working in ems
Cons: managements rules are always changing it takes more then adaptability
Excellent company to be employed with. The problems are with management always coming up with a new rule without notice. which can be confusing making work difficult because something you was able to do yesterday you can't do today.

EMT (Current Employee), Brooklyn,nyFebruary 21, 2014
Pros: nothing
Cons: everything
I currently work here. They pay you $11.00 and act like they are doing you a favor. The supervisors are all wannabes and the busses are always broken. They give you a 1-9 shift every day but plan on staying till at least 11pm every night. Go out of state and get a better transport job. It starts at $14 an hour in NJ.

Paramedic (Former Employee), Brooklyn, NYDecember 19, 2013
Working in EMS has taught me that no two days are the same and to expect the unexpected. You have to be able to adapt to change while keeping a sharp decision making capacity. Patients, customers or clients are not the same. Even though their dispositions may present the same, the outcomes can change rapidly, drastictly, or not change at all. However, – more... you have to be able to address it accordingly for the best possible results. In the fields I have expererienced, there is one thing I have learned is that when you deal with people, your service to the public must be impeccable. The joy you create for your career must come from within. Monetary fullfilment will only last as long as the monies permits, which is usually short term. Create a pleasurable working environment by empowering others to lead, respect and be courteous. – less
