Nice and quiet
Mail Clerk (Former Employee), Philadelphia, PA –
working at the I.R.S i have learned more about the government, then what i had known before working at the I.R.S. Most of my co-workers were friendly would helped. Some were rude and wouldn't speak. The hardest part of my job was checking for checks in cases, but it was'nt a big problem, overall working at the I.R.S was not really hard. The most enjoyable – more...  part of working at the IRS was leaving early and Holidays – less

Review summary is exactly what my review statement is.
Cash Clerk (Former Employee), kansas city, mo –
Pros: very nice work enviroment
Cons: short term temp work is what they hired me for, during high volumne tax season
The IRS was the one company I have always wanted to work for. I considered it to have been extremely interesting and definately a stable work enviroment. Due to being a large business, they had many company policies that I appreciated. Common curtesy towards your fellow employees was essential. Everyone you passed, they smiled at you and said good morning.

IRS is a good place to work, but the environment can be very stressful.
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee), Indianapolis, IN –
Pros: excellent salary and benefits, usually congenial co-workers
Cons: high pressure job
At the IRS call center you are busy all day. The work is a combination of knowing tax law and handling issues associated with individuals who owe taxes.

Management is under intense pressure to ensure tax law questions are answered accurately and in as little time as possible.

The hardest part of the job was collecting from people who are barely making – more...  a living and have found themselves with tax balances they are unable to pay.

The most enjoyable of the job is the thanks from the taxpayers who expected a less empathetic environment than they received from me. – less

Factory like
Tax Examiner (Seasonal) (Former Employee), Andover, MA –
Pros: paid for lunches
Cons: not enough room
While it was a seasonal position, it felt more like a factory assembly line than a friendly work environment. Whistles blew when it was break time and lunch and when it was time to leave. Not an enviornment that I would thrive in.

Productive work place with minimual interaction with co-workers during work hours except breaks and lunch.
Data Entry Clerk (Former Employee), Kansas City, MO –
Pros: seasonal
Cons: short breaks
A typical day was to enter information from 1040 from onto datebase. What I learned was to stay focused on my input with few or no mistakes. Working with co-workers was easy do to the fact it was very little interaction with others. The hardest part was the fast pace of entering the information. I enjoyed the hours.
