A Hostile Environment
NURSE, Tunkhannock, PA - November 23, 2015
While there were many good co-workers, the management was horrible. This place would actually schedule RN's to work an 8 or 12 hour shift and then cancel them at the last minute, and instead pay them $2 an hour for on-call pay. Tough to live on when you are expecting a 40 hour week, but instead bring home $2 an hour (before taxes). The management thought nothing of this at all. A convenient way to save money I guess. I never saw the management work for $2, and they never would. You would have to be an idiot to seek employment at this place and expect to earn a living. It's unfortunate that the same parent company Community Health Systems owns most of the area hospitals. I don't think a company trying to tell an employee what to do for 8 or 12 hours on call is worth 2 bucks. It was about control. You can't go out and get drunk for that 8 or 12 hours because you would hope the phone would ring and you might actually get some hours. They thought that they owned you for the on-call time despite not paying you your hourly wage that you expected when you were hired. There was no incentive whatsoever if you did get called in. If there was one hour left of your schedule shift then all you were paid for was that hour and $14 for being on call. Good luck if you actually need money to survive. If not and you want to pass the time away then work here.
