How to increase probability of becoming a firefighter in the Air Force? Is it possible to get your recruiter to promise becoming a firefighter in writing?

Yes. Just make sure the AFSC for the job you want is ON THE CONTRACT!!! Do not sign the contract until the job you want is on it. The recruiter may be very unwilling to do this. He has a quota to meet. That is when you involve your senator.

Call an AF firehouse and talk to a firemen. They will tell you what the AFSC (Air Force Specialty Code) for firefighters. Try to get invited to a base near you to see hands-on what they do, from aircraft fires, hangers, fuel, and base housing fires.

Yes it is possible to get it in writing, but having a high enough ASFAB score helps as well, the USAF reruiter willhave more details and can explain better.

You used to be able to enter into a contract to get a specific job within the Air Force. I do not know if this still happens or not. It also falls back on the individual to satisfactorily complete the assigned school for their job. If they fail out of their school, they may be forced into another career field.
