Great opportunity to push your own limits and discover yourself
Community Health Educator (Former Employee), Essaouira, Morocco –
As a Peace Corps Volunteer, you are assigned to work in a community for over two years. Some sites are in rural villages while others are in urban cities. It's a lot of roll-up-your-sleeves type of work in which you engage the local people to build sustainable projects. It's hard work but it's worthwhile work.

Peace Corps is the hardest job you'll – more...  ever love. – less

Toughest job that I have done but the most rewarding also
Community Forestry Extensionist (Former Employee), Jima near Cuenca, Ecuador –
Pros: meeting people and seeing places i wouldn't have.
Cons: lack of financial resources, also being sick much of the time.
I got up at about 5:30 each day, had a quick breakfast, and then walked 2 to 4 hours to people's farms in the surrounding country side. I did a walk around with the owner and produced a simple map showing where trees could be planted to provide fuel, act as windbreaks, produce fruit for sale, and act as shade. In the afternoons three days a week I taught – more...  in the local elementary school. I worked with the teachers and students to develop an environmental education program for 4th to 6th grades. I worked with two families to create tree nurseries.
The hardest part of the job was the lack of resources and being sick a lot of the time.
The most enjoyable part of the job was increasing interest in apples to the point that they now have an annual apple festival. – less

Youth Development Volunteer (Former Employee), St. Vincent –
The Peace Corps is a great way to travel and see another part of the world, while performing meaningful work. It is not for everyone and there are many challenges, so be sure that you are fully committed before joining.
