Organization Description: The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is a national non-profit organization that provides direct lobbying and grassroots coalition support to protect and advance the rights of American sportsmen. USSA’s Government Affairs team works in all 50 state legislatures, at the ballot box, and in the halls of Congress. They also provide litigation services and legal research both at the state and federal levels.
Position Summary: The Alliance is seeking a qualified candidate to oversee and manage their state legislative affairs. The Director of State Services will lead grassroots efforts to advance the organization’s state level advocacy agenda. This position will collaborate with the Vice President of Government Affairs to build campaigns to advocate in support or opposition of legislation, rules, or regulations at the state level. This will include the development, management and execution of legislative campaigns, ballot issue campaigns, organizing grassroots support and fundraising. Additional duties include managing the Alliance’s efforts to monitor and analyze current and emerging state legislation and policy issues as well as writing advocacy related content regarding legislation, regulations other related issues. This position reports to the Alliance’s Vice President of Government Affairs and will oversee other members of the state legislative affairs team.
Qualifications: Qualified candidates will have bachelor’s degree or higher in political science, public policy, public administration or a similar field. A J.D. would be beneficial, but is not required. Candidates should have at least 5 years of related experience in legislative affairs or advocacy; excellent written and oral communication skills, and a passion for the outdoors.
