Hard work but worth it
Operations Supervisor (Former Employee), Greensboro, NCJuly 20, 2014
Pros: great in great shape, know what they are expecting at all times, benefits
Cons: little advancement
If you want to get paid to go to the gym and play a giant game of tetris at work this is a great place to work. I had muscles hurt when I first started that I did not know I had. Great part-time job that will help you pay for college and offers free benefits for employees and family. (Union that is) management does pay for it but still affordable and – more... great coverage. If you don't have work ethic and drive you will learn it or you will quit. There is no middle ground here. I will be sending my kids to work here when they are of age as it is the perfect job to start off on the right track. Career growth is rough here because no one leaves (EVER) Good thing for the company not so great for the person wanting full time employment. It is made for the college student, someone wanting extra income or like I said gym work out while getting paid. – less

Productive workplace with people getting the job done
Truck load (Former Employee), East Petersburg, PAJuly 20, 2014
I would go in at 3am, get my shipment papers so I knew where to load certain packages. I would load up to 4 trucks on a normal day, during busy times like holidays there was a possibility of us having to load more than 4 trucks. I worked with co-workers to achieve the goals for that day and my shift ended whenever I was accomplished with what was expected – more... of me, usually around 7-8am. If I or my co-workers needed help we were all there for one another as a team. I enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment and knowing I could count on coworkers and supervisors for any help I needed. The hardest part of the job was trying to load the trucks when it was getting closer to the holidays, we had lots of packages to load! – less

Package Handler (Current Employee), Montgomery AlabamaJuly 18, 2014
Pros: 401k and health benefits
Cons: short breaks and low pay
A typical day at UPS consist of a steady and consistent pace as far as working is concerned. I seem to get along with all of my co-workers, we all have a great form of a teamwork effort. The management at UPS are professional and are strict as far as making sure everyone in my department are doing there part as far as completing assigned tasks. The – more... hardest part of this job deals with the seasonal change as far as working in the winter. In the warehouse it tends to reach a very cold temperature which causes my hands to become numb while lifting boxes. What I find most enjoyable about my job is when the company shows employee appreciation by sometimes grilling after we're are done for the day or even bringing snacks during break. This job has taught me a great amount of humility and has shown me an even clearer sense of responsibility. – less

Delivery Driver (Former Employee), Salisbury, MDJuly 18, 2014
A typical day consisted of well managed time and safety at all times this allowed all dead lines to be me in a safe and productive manner. I learned a lot of things about life through many of my customers. My co workers we easy to talk to and we all managed to be team players. The hardest part of the job was dealing with the different elements of nature – more... which no one has control of. The most enjoyable part of my day was when I would arrive to a customer's job or home and be greeted like a regular member of their family, but still on a professional level, meaning you want a cold glass of water or a hot cup of coffee. Things of that nature. I really enjoy dealing with people. – less

Part-time Supervisor (Current Employee), Atlanta, GAJuly 17, 2014
Pros: midnight shift
Cons: whoo ra environment!
It is a RESULTS driven environment, great numbers when it comes to servicing packages. A typical day at work, i will start by assigning equipment and giving my staff their job duties for the night.
I check trailer and write out seal control for the trailer driver, I continuously communicate with my employees on equipment problems, progress in completed – more... task assignments, and all breaks they take. I key in payroll needs for my employees and track their hourly package count, damage packages, address corrections, re-wraps, and the irregulars on the floor. I address safety concerns and injuries immediately. I am always training, when an old employee or new employee needs to be groomed I will facilitate in their training. – less

Package Handler (Current Employee), Raleigh, NCJuly 17, 2014
Pros: friends, community, the feeling of being capable.
Cons: no breaks unless asked for, extreme temperatures, slow wage increase
I may be the only person who feels this way about working at UPS, but I love it. I look forward to going into work everyday, greeting all of my co-workers by name, and knowing that I am a part of something, a team that works together, in which every part is integral and important.
When I first arrive everyday, I wait at a designated location for my – more... supervisor to assign me to a workstation. I then prepare my workstation for the evening and begin the work of sorting packages. My current manager is the best I've ever had. He's kind and patient, and I've never seen him get angry despite the stresses that come with the job. He's fair and approachable, if I have an issue to discuss.
The most enjoyable part of my job is the atmosphere. Everyone knows everyone and for the most part we all get along. I love the teamwork that goes on everyday there, the way we all pitch in to make sure the job gets done.
The hardest part of the job is often the working conditions. Because it's in a warehouse, the temperatures are often difficult to deal with. In the winter it gets very cold and the summers are sweltering. I've heard that people often quit because the temperatures are so extreme. – less
