Club Volleyball Official, Amarillo, TX - May 3, 2017
Working as a Club Volleyball Official you typically only work weekends. Though you only work weekends it is a full weekend of work. Depending on the start time of the tournament you have to be at they gym an hour before the first match is scheduled to start. The first match of the day is typically scheduled to start at 8:30 while the last match is scheduled for 18:00. Though all the matches have a scheduled start time, it is possible to get ahead of schedule or behind schedule. Working as an official you have to accept that you will not please everybody that is watching your court. Parents will yell at you, coaches will yell at you and players will yell at you. Though it isn't pleasant being yelled at by three different groups of people, officiating volleyball is something that I personally enjoy. When you start the season you see how individuals and teams start the season, as the season goes on you see how well they progress. You develop relationships with the coaches and players that you see and work with every weekend.
