Press Operator III (Computer) (Former Employee) –  Mount Gilead, NCMay 8, 2017
Would not recommend employment at Unilin. Owner is not employee friendly and stresses profits over people. Employees are scared of management and of losing their jobs due to management pressures.

Competitive pay, very whimsical management, your set schedule will vary, lots of overtime.
Former employee (Former Employee) –  Melbourne, ArkansasMarch 11, 2016
It's a very clickish...good old boy mentality there..from management to supervisors all the way down..lots of favoritism. Work schedules are subject to change at a moments notice...you may be required to stay over or come in on a previously scheduled day off because key favorites decided to go fishing..or your supervisor or lead forgot to tell you the day of or before..or you will get a derogatory POINT on their 3 points your out protocol. The pay is very competitive to the point that you really can't match it for the area...but the company knows that and uses that fact as leverage in scheduling and shift preference and job duties.management is whimsical at best. Very moody and very ADHD-ish in decision making . Always " Who is gonna own this?" Mentality because it's full deny ability of any unfavorable outcome, question or action. There is no chain of command or due process with this.
Pros
Very good pay for the area...
Cons
Good safety practices UNTIL production is affected then its GET IT DONE...WE HAVE ORDERS TO FILL

Fairly laid back with excellent pay and awesome coworkers.
Level 3 Assistant Operator (Current Employee) –  Thomasville, NCJanuary 10, 2016
The pay scale is better than most companies, and equivalent to the best paying companies around. 12 hour shifts work 2 days, off 2 days, work 3, off 2, work 2, off 3. 36 hours 1 week and 48 hours the next. Plenty of time off, but there are a lot of overtime opportunities with virtually no mandatory overtime. They have incentives bonuses quarterly, a safety program to earn free gifts, buy pizza for employees a few times a year and also cater in meals a few times a year. Great employee discounts. They are very safety oriented so there is very little manual labor. Paid extra for working holidays, but most holidays the majority of the plant shuts down, and they still pay you 8 hours. Paid breaks: 2 10 minute breaks, and a 20 minute lunch, but you cannot leave and no smoking.
Pros
Pay, benefits, coworkers
Cons
Short breaks

Company is Production driven ...
Mechanical Team Lead (Current Employee) –  Mount Gilead, NCDecember 25, 2015
Production driven ...but will not jeprodize safety for production sake
...The company has forgotten to award or let the workers know that they are truly appreciated ...people will go the extra step almost always if this was to happen
Pros
Off days during the week
Cons
there have been plenty of shifts that were 13 to 15hrs long with minimum to no break....or lunch

Torweggee Operator (Former Employee) –  1000 MAXINE RDAugust 3, 2014
Operating the machine , making sure it was running smoothly and doing checks periodically. Making sure my work area was clean. Working along side the other operators on the line to a sure that the line was running efficiently. I learned that different types of wood have textures , where some are hard or softer that others. I learned the name of the wood that was being run by looking at its wood pattern. I learned that every body has different personalities and react differently under certain situations. Making sure that the machine was set up properly was probably the hardest part of the job . There was a lot involved in the setup and dealing with millimeters. Watching the finished hardwood being put in boxes to be shipped out was a very satisfying feeling , knowing that you shared responsibility in producing a quality product.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
No room for mistakes .

Supply Chain (Former Employee) –  Dallas, TXJanuary 13, 2014
Unfortunately, I reported to someone who was not prepared to lead people and who was executively immature and very unethical. Hard work and a good work ethic was not recognized. Also, was very unsupportive. Basically, sets up people to fail.

Check lift for damages, check all fluids, get the order ready for the day, unload and load truck that came in for the day. I had to keep the warhouse clear for traffic, stacked pallets and made sure orders was in the right place. The hardest part of the job was have room to put new orders.

QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN (Current Employee) –  Mount Gilead, NCAugust 15, 2012
I am responsible for quality control in all departments of the plant. I have learned more about the operations of the company in this position. Management and co-workers are willing to help you out if you have questions or concerns about anything. You need to be a self-motivated, reliable and responsible, and detail-oriented person that can multi-task to do this position effectively. It's a demanding job and I like that aspect of it.
Pros

Cons
long hours and weekends
