Not quite for time immemorial, but MedStar Union Memorial Hospital (formerly Union Memorial Hospital) has been caring for patients for a long time (since 1839). The Baltimore-area facility is a specialty acute-care hospital with 250 beds and more than 620 physicians. MedStar Union Memorial offers a full array of diagnostic, medical, surgical and rehabilitative services. The hospital provides graduate medical education through residency programs and fellowship programs. MedStar Union Memorial offers 19 post-graduate first year positions in medicine; a surgical training program; and an orthopedic surgical program. MedStar's Online Clinical Library provides access, both onsite and offsite, to electronic resources for drug information, evidence-based medicine, point of care, full-test textbooks and more the 400 full-text journals.

To emphasize it parent's brand as part of its future growth strategy, Union Memorial Hospital changed its name to MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in 2012.
