Press Officer (Current Employee) –  New York, NYJuly 20, 2017
A wonderful organization.
A very good place to work with interesting and kind colleagues from all everywhere around the world.
The downside is there are infrequent vacancies as staff members rarely leave the organization.

Intern, Economic and Social Council (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJuly 14, 2017
It was honestly the most incredible non-paid experience that anyone can have. You see many countries trying to achieve the middle ground of passing certain motions and just by listening in to the negotiation process you learn so much

Dock Master (Current Employee) –  New York, NYJune 18, 2017
As one might imagine, this place is all about security. It's most important to operate by the book here. Even though it's not constantly busy, work often comes in larger waves & you may find weekly overtime opportunities depending on your department. The Supervisors I have met are dedicated, smart & hard working people who only want the best for our operations. The hardest part of the job is acclimating to procedure. Also, as expected, the commute can be a drag for those who aren't local. Best part of the job can be the people you will meet in your travels.

Military Liaison Officer (Former Employee) –  DARFUR, SUDANJune 6, 2017
Interesting enviroment to work in with people from different nations and in a war zone. Management of unated nations was superb promoting accontability and transparence. Every member of the team in the mission area was prifvy to all necessary information happening in the mission area regarding security, welfare and the like. Hardest part was relizing that the working enviroment was a war zone and security challenges are real almost always.
Pros
Good interactions with people from different nations and cultures
Cons
Living the obvious challenge of unstable war situation, But manageable

The United Nations is a unique working environment on so many levels: philosophically, culturally, the nature of the work, and the differences in the people that work there. It provides an opportunity to do humanitarian work globally to bring about change to peoples in need, with the goal of improving the quality of life for humanity.
Pros
The international exposure.
Cons
Understanding the nuances of the various cultures.

Desktop Support Technician II (Former Employee) –  New York, NYMay 23, 2017
It is a very stressful place to work and some people working as consultants are not professionals at all. Managers are not having enough supervision over the supervisors handling employees. Cursing words fly in the IT department like nothing.

Ambassador at the UN is excellent job. Compensation & benefits, a function country's national policies.
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Palau (Former Employee) –  New York, NYApril 28, 2017
Work as Ambassador at the United Nations is excellent. The challenges and job satisfaction are excellent. The ratings above are related to the employer which is the Government of Palau. Because the job is a political appointment, job security is not guaranteed. The compensation and benefits are commensurate with a developing country Public Service Commission policy. The work at the UN is 24/7. Working at multilateral levels is always challenging, takes lot of diplomacy and patience. One has to adjust to the culture of multinational advocacy, multiethnic tolerance and joy of diversity. The hardest part of the job is balancing between ethical/spiritual convictions and achieving consensus towards global good. The most enjoyable part of the job is meeting and making friends with the people from all walks of life, from all countries. Yes, I believe being an ambassador at the UN is one of the most exciting jobs a person can have.
Pros
Meeting diverse diplomats in meetings and receptions as a representative of your country.
Cons
Slow process (rhetoric nature) of getting things done.
