Job Culture
Sales = anti-company culture
Account Executive (Former Employee) –  Troy, MIOctober 25, 2017
Success can be found if you're friends with the right people in the right places.

Being a well liked individual that lives the culture, and maintains sales numbers in the top 50% of the company will not save you if the people who make the decisions do not like you.

This comes up every few months in the all sales meeting that happens every Wednesday morning to try and squash the truth as a rumor.

It's pretty real when you're on the bottom end of the stick and the termination reason is "at will" since there wasn't a real reason outside of that.
Pros
Culture outside of sales, 1 hour lunches.
Cons
low salary, slow & difficult ramp up period, favoritism.

Cool Place To Work As Long As You Are In Good With The Right People
Account Executive (Former Employee) –  Troy, MIOctober 24, 2017
You can make it as long as you kiss the right behinds or are family or good friends with the right people. Outside of that, nothing is guaranteed. Uses a lot of perks to cover up for lack of pay rates. Good onsite facility. Must learn how to politic if you want to advance.

Overall United Shore is a great company with a great culture. Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming. The hardest part about the job was explaining guidelines to people who don't have as much experience with them as an underwriter would. Overall, good job.

Underwriting
Senior Mortgage Underwriter (Former Employee) –  Troy, MIAugust 5, 2017
Expectations set by upper management are very unreasonable. Quantity over quality should be the companies motto. Loan quality errors that will not cause true loan buy back directly impact monthly bonuses. Management thrives on making very experienced and proven successful employees feel inadequate and unsure of their abilities to be efficient underwrites. Management is very condescending and always trying to find a way to underpay and over work their employees.
Pros
Free Pop and coffee. Holiday party and family events
Cons
Extremly low pay and stressful work enviorment.

Production based company that treats you like family. Promotes from within and doesn't ever make you feel like you are stuck in a position forever, they care about their team members and respect their wishes of advancement.

Unites Wholesale was a great experience for me. I met a ton of great people as well as learned a lot about the wholesale side of the mortgage business. i was not a fan of the open forum in which business was done as well as being used to train many employees after winning rookie of the year and not getting a promotion.
Pros
made good money
Cons
atmosphere

Day to Day
Closer (Current Employee) –  Troy, MIJune 8, 2017
Typical day enters with everyone saying high. Different shifts meant different roles. Production based so a great performance is rewarded by acknowledgement. Chances for bonuses, but only for exemplary production.

Lots of social events and perks offered to employees.

Most enjoyable part of the job were the intial opportunities. Made you feel like you would advance very quickly.

Hardest part of the job was that it was often times very competitive, which made opportunities scarce.
Pros
Great Benefits, Fun Events, Perks
Cons
Competiitive, Long Hours, Lots of IT issues

MORTGAGE UNDERWRITER (Current Employee) –  Troy, MIMay 28, 2017
Not what I expected. Money is mediocre. Pressure to underwrite loans when the business is not there. Great restaurant, fitness center and doctor's office on the premises.
Pros
Benefits
Cons
System that allows employees to pick loans that they will underwrite, System needs to be automated so that it is fair.

This is a fun and productive workplace
Account Executive (Former Employee) –  Troy, MIMay 24, 2017
With fun, there often comes a sacrifice which at this company is loyalty. They have a high turnover rate and are known for underpaying employees. The hardest part of the job is the growth only coming from how much people like you as opposed to the work that one does. However, they do promote culture and having a tight community, but this is often is misused.
Pros
Fun environment
Cons
Lack of loyalty, improper interoffice relationships, disconnect between upper and lower management

Good work life balance with a fake culture
Digital Marketing Intern (Former Employee) –  Troy, MIMay 19, 2017
UWM promotes a healthy work life balance, however the very fake and almost cult like way they approach company culture is bizarre. They force the culture upon you and you can tell that the individuals that push it the most are the ones that despise it the most. It almost seems like one of those creepy churches. Also, there is no communication between the management, as there is no clear hierarchy.

Great Company
Account Executive (Former Employee) –  Troy, MIMay 19, 2017
Worked a firm 40, learned their specific way to do business. The management was open door policy meaning you could walk up to any leader. The culture was amazing. Benefits were great. Pay just took way to long to be beneficial

Management is out of touch
Account Executive/Sales (Former Employee) –  Troy, MIApril 21, 2017
Management micro-micro-manages your every move. Middle-management are given the title "Leaders" but very few understand what makes a leader, causing a hostile work environment. If you can put up with the daily "grind" and the factory-like atmosphere you'll learn a lot about the business there. Many within the company really will care about you but unless you work directly with them, you're left to take the daily abuse from your superiors who were probably forced to become Team Leaders or Division Managers (not that they wanted to be, should have been or were prepared to be promoted). Company really needs to consider ongoing "Leadership Training" for their leaders. (do you sense a chronic problem here?)
Pros
On-going training & technical support
Cons

Account Executive (Current Employee) –  Troy, MIApril 13, 2017
Excellent on the executive level. As you would expect, qualify of life/leadership trickles down as you move down the totem pole of positions. Always, however, a positive experience.
Pros
So many attributes and ways to make your work life better.
Cons
Political competition - More fair and expected the higher you go.

Verbal Verification of Employment Specialist (Former Employee) –  Troy, MIMarch 13, 2017
Some good things about working here was they really would look out for their employees and made sure we were taken care of. They would train you until you thought you were ready to hit the floor by yourself. I have learned to make sure you are nice to everyone even if they are not nice to you, you never know when you will have to work with them again.

Just do not join Underwriting department and it will be better.

People are not the Greatest assets.

Training still needs lots of work, you can Underwrite loans and have no Idea what a Bankruptcy is or a PUD.
Pros
cafe for lunch, the people hired are super nice.
Cons
Management in Underwriting worst ever seen with no knowledge and no assistance/

Don't believe the hype!
Underwriting Support Specialist (Former Employee) –  Troy, MIAugust 28, 2016
Please don't believe the comments about best place to work, it's all about perception!!! United Wholesale Mortgage is the worst and I mean the worst place I have ever worked in my life. The company is always hiring to fill the spots of the ones who saw the foolishness. Management is horrible and extremely unprofessional. It seemed to me to have a feel of high school bs and childishness. Managers or as UWM calls it "Team Leads" walk around as if they own the place with their noses up. It's all about who you know and who's butt you kiss to get anywhere in that company. If you have a degree don't bother telling them because degrees don't matter and they really really don't at UWM. Pay is too low to be treated as a child and disrespected by so called management. Unrealistic goals and bs incentives. They even have fake internal interviews. Congratulate individuals for cheating and making false documents. I would not even dare to tell someone to work for UWM. The comment posted about people saying bad things about the company is so so true. I was with the company for 6 months and everyday day I heard co-workers complaining and gossiping. Individuals in charge are untrained and unprofessional. UWB United Wholesale BS...Where You Can Be YOU! Worst company ever!
