Abusive management culture
Clinical Nurse III (Former Employee), San Diego, CA – April 20, 2013
Pros: good pay and benefits
Cons: abusive nurse managers and attending mds
Great place to do research but horrible to be a staff nurse. Nurse managers play favorites and are abusive to staff. Attending MDs are abusive but the residents are great.

Great Experience
Financial & Operations Manager (Current Employee), San Diego, CA – February 25, 2013
Pros: great benefits
Cons: salary not competitive
In general, a great place to work for. Learned a lot over the years. Specially managing employees. Co-workers are down to earth and fun to be around. The hardest part was paying for my parking. But the most enjoyable is being in an acadamic environment. Enjoyed watching student life on campus.

Great position to learn about self-starting
Work-Study Student (Former Employee), San Diego, CA – January 21, 2013
Pros: compensation for work
Cons: irregular schedule/ only seasonal
Worked as a work-study student for an elementary school teacher's assistant and as a note transcriber. Both jobs entailed punctuality and a keen eye for detail due to the nature of the jobs. Having a certain grade-point average and income allowed me to experience working through the University of California San Diego as an integral part of my college – more... community and in San Diego. – less

Laid back workplace culture; those who take initiative can learn alot, but won't necess adv in the company; woeful takehome pay
Student Affairs (former) (Former Employee), UCSD campus – November 8, 2012
Pros: surrounded by bright minds, laid back workplace culture, every holiday is observed
Cons: lack necessary incentives to drive staff creativity and productivity
For an institution of higher learning, possessed dismal mentorship opportunities/culture. Typical academy politics was disheartening. Some mngrs were flat out incompetent and/or corrupt; some staff suffered from the mindset of the slothful, complacent public emplyee, both of which worked to stifle creativity, productivity and morale in cowrkrs. Flagging – more... salaries have not kept pace with region's hi cost of living for many yrs. Parking is a deal breaker. Bennies were best part of compensation pckg. Morale can also plunge during times of impending layoffs. Many mngmnt lacked ability to teach employees, nor did they possess the proper training, technique and resolve to motivate or ferret out corrupt/incompetent employees. Despite these obstacles, a motivated pro can develop sought after skills and take them to the marketplace for higher pay, where having 'UC' on your resume still holds clout. – less

No room for growth and departments only hire internally
Admin Specialist (Current Employee), La Jolla, CA – September 17, 2012
Pros: nice people, great health benefits, steady pay
Cons: low compensation, no room for growth, no promotions, management not helpful
UCSD has a lot of nice people, but there is no room for growth in any position. In order to move up, you have to go to a different department, but departments only hire people they won't have to train. It's very difficult to find a new position.
