Lead College Peer Advisor (Former Employee) –  El Centro, CAJuly 18, 2016
A typical day at work would include going around different school sites and supervising and helping out college peer advisors become familiar with providing post-secondary education advice to students of different grade levels.
Part of the job included giving college and career readiness presentations to students of different high schools.
Recording and keeping student profiles and student contact dates.

UCSD GEAR-UP Coordinator (Former Employee) –  La Jolla, CAJuly 14, 2016
Great institution with great people. Hard to make generalizations but overall it was a great experience. The only issue I had was working in tandem with the San Diego Unified School district that had some counselors and teachers that were tenured and thus lacked the motivation/enthusiasm that young teachers or coordinators like myself had.

Undergraduate Researcher, Bachelor of Science (Former Employee) –  La Jolla, CAJuly 12, 2016
This is not a job, but a volunteer position. They work you hard and you don't get pay. The only positive is the experience and a foot in the door. Not much else to say.
Pros
learn things
Cons
have to work ridiculously hard to get an expensive piece of paper

Research Assistant (Former Employee) –  San Diego, CAJuly 11, 2016
I can only speak to the structural engineering department, but they always treated me well. There is much cutting edge research to do there if you are really interested in the structural engineering field.

Teacher's Assistant (Current Employee) –  San Diego, CADecember 25, 2015
Work load is assigned weekly with a deadline and is completed independently with some coordination with co-workers and supervisor. The work environment was highly academic and the communication and organization system within the work force was very effective. Interaction with students, professor, and other TA's provided an opportunity to develop strong communication and coordination skills. Following the students' development and performance throughout the courses was the most rewarding part of the job. Co-workers were fun yet hard-working.

As a student worker with work study you can get a job easily and most places are willing to work with your schedule.
If you have to commute by car parking is expensive.

Conference Services Associate II (Former Employee) –  La Jolla, CASeptember 13, 2015
Management was not really helpful, always came late into the office, played favoritism. The management had a rude attitude towards employees and very different to the customers.

Asst. Manager IT Support / Audio Visual Lead (Former Employee) –  San Diego, CAMarch 26, 2015
UCSD is a great place to work, the benefits alone are worth it. I was at the San Diego Supercomputer and have friends still today who are there. I have been gone now for the last 8 years, but it was a great stepping stone to the career I have today.
