Management and Above Reap all the Rewards
Executive Assistant (Current Employee), Aurora, CO – May 7, 2013
Pros: pay
Cons: work/personal life balance; hours worked ridiculous
Meanwhile, the best and brightest remain peons getting very low bonuses compared to the outrageous, mostly unearned bonuses of the "protected class." If you're a favorite, you get paid more. If you work hard and don't play the political game, you get dumped on, treated like garbage and paid pennies.

Good organization - current culture changes NOT so good
Executive Assistant (Former Employee), Aurora, CO – April 15, 2013
Pros: good pay
Cons: lack of upper management support - left you with no where to turn.
I worked for the hospital for several years. I still believe it is a good organization and would continue to get care there.

It is the people who make an organization good or bad. Ultimately my experience of upper management turned very sour. Again, some individuals shinned while others showed their true colors, and I chose to no longer be a part of – more... a department that lacked integrity, honesty or respect.

While most co-workers were nice, some stabbed you in the back the first chance they had. What I learned from my time at UCH is to never to trust anyone.

Hardest part of the job - having to become jaded to get through the work week.

Most enjoyable part of the job - being a part of an organization that helps people. – less

Learned the front-line aspects of assisting physicians.
Care Team Associate (Former Employee), Aurora, CO – March 21, 2013
Pros: connection with drug representatives.
I appreciate learning more about the importance of privacy for the patients and their families, that we provided service to.
I learned to network also with other speciality clinics/provide referrals/co-pay processing; along with charge entry.
Team work is always I strength I possess-along with my ability to work independently.
I always strive to provide – more... service with a smile.
I also assisted with walk-ins/purging of records/phones, etc. – less

Stressful, hectic, unsupported by management. Management unfair to employees
staff RN (Former Employee), Aurora, Colorado – March 20, 2013
Cons: stressful environment, difficulty getting breaks, frequently understaffed, frequent overtime, frequent over scheduling of patient appointments, unfair with disciplinary matters
Honestly, while I enjoyed where I worked it was poorly managed. The supervisor cared more about numbers and very little about what was done with the numbers of patients in our clinic which was pretty heavy with procedures. This always tied up one staff and usually left the rest of the clinic short handed. Very difficult to get extra help and in fact – more... we would be penalized for doing so. Our supervisor had a tendency of checking on us when we had slow days and not when the clinic was hectic and understaffed which was most of the time.
My coworkers were good to work with and usually helpful if they werent already overloaded. The hardest part of the clinic was when our MDs wanted to add on procedures when the clinic was already running full. This happened fairly often and was always allowed. Again, I felt that management was not supportive with our clinic. – less

Horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!
Telemetry Technician (Former Employee), Aurora, CO – February 9, 2013
Pros: 3 day work week
Cons: schedule preference given students, management, no ethics
Worked as a telemetry tech for 9 yrs. The manager that hired me was awesome! When she left the manager brought on was HORRIBLE. Really good people where forced out so young students could replace them and since they are in school they get scheduling preference. Seniority doesn't matter. Lots of back stabbing in the department. Forced to work in a small – more... room with two other people right on top of you. The manager plays favorites, has coworkers befriend you to get personal info and emails then uses them against you. She will have people keep tabs on you then get weekly reports. There has been a high turnover for a reason and complaints filed against the manager and hospital with the dept of labor. The staff spend more time doing homework and gossiping then watching the patients. – less

Terrible management -- RUN!
RN - clinic (Current Employee), Aurora, CO – December 4, 2012
Pros: academic medicine setting
Cons: management
Lack of ethics in this setting. Magnet status means nothing, there is no consideration of the RNs here nor are their concerns listened to. Management does tend to target certain employees for termination if they speak up about anything. Rational thought is frowned upon here. They keep a lot of lazy, tenured RNs on the payroll that do very little work.

very nice place to work if all you want to do is work.
Pharmacy Technician (Former Employee), Aurora, CO – November 2, 2012
I worked here for 4 years and it was good and bad like any job the worst part was when I decided to go to school part time and work full time. I tried my hardest to work with the managment to facilitate a schedule that meet the needs of the business while meeting my personal education goals. This was meet with nothing but resistance from the managers – more... and eventually caused me to quit do to the lack of support and help that was shown to me when i tried my hardest to work with them. – less

Very busy
Certified Nurse Assistant (Current Employee), Aurora, Co – October 18, 2012
Pros: to take vacation whenever we want
Cons: not enough lunch time, short staff, unbalanced with everybody trying to play chief.
Assisting a lot patients with only 2 CNA's with care. I have learned a lot of different things in medicine such as kidney function, liver function, and the affects it has on you. MNgement could be better, but they are doing what they can I guess. Most of my co-workers are cool to be around. The hardest parts of the job is that there is not enough staff. – more... Being able to laugh withthe patients at one of the most hurting of times. – less

Great Hospital, Poor Management
Radiolgy Assitant/Scheduler (Current Employee), Aurora, CO – October 2, 2012
Pros: great research hospital, decent pay
Cons: poor management, targeting of individuals
I witnessed management treat some employees very well and some horribly. It seemed that when there was some kind of rub between management and employees, there was a full court press to make life for them so miserable, that either they were forced to quit, or fired. When Human Resources was contacted, there was no resolution and little help.

Fantastic job to learn and grow
Clinical Nurse II NICU (Current Employee), Aurora, CO – September 14, 2012
Pros: competitive salary and bonuses
Cons: long hours
UCH is a fantastic place to work and learn. Unfortunately I am unable to work 12 hour shifts overnight any longer. Working in an atmosphere where you save the tiniest lives is amazing and fulfilling. The hardest part of my job is watching a tiny life slip away and the heartache that it causes. I have worked here for almost 8 years and am ready to try – more... something new like case management, clinical research, legal nurse consulting, utilization reviewer /risk management, or perhaps a diabetes educator. – less

Best place I have ever worked.
Care Team Assistant (Former Employee), Denver, CO – August 12, 2012
I loved working at this hospital. The employees were genuine and we were like a family. Great teamwork and benefits. Opportunities to learn and advance. Tuition reimbursemant. Beautiful campus. Nice compensation. It was a positive atmosphere. I worked at the front desk of the Renal, Burn, and Lung transplant clinics. Although I was just a front desk – more... person, I always felt like I made a difference at the end of each workday. I was never treated like I was at the bottom of the totem pole. – less

good place to work but not many places to advance up
Special Programs Coordinator (Current Employee), Aurora, CO – June 6, 2012
Pros: good benefits and semi casual work atmosphire
Cons: hard place to advance past middle management
Univ of Colorado is like many hospitals, lots of policies and run like the military. It is a great place to work if you can handle that type of standard. I have done well at Univ of Colo but want to advance my career and don't have many opportunities currently. Everyone I have worked with at Univ of Colo has been wonderful. In my job being able to do – more... multiple things correctly the first time is the biggest stress, but I thrive on doing more. Working for a clinic like The Center for Integrative Medicine I have been able to be part of many outreach and fundraisers projects. This type of work is rewarding to me. – less
