The University of Maryland at College Park Police Department is currently accepting applications for the University Police Officer I (UPO I) position. This is a full- time entry level position as a fully sworn, armed, Law Enforcement Officer. This hiring process is being held for an anticipated Police Academy start date is February 17, 2014. The closing date for this job posting is October 18, 2013.

Selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a six- month State Certified Police Academy, Field Training, and probationary period.

Minimum Requirements:
 Must be 21 years old at the time of graduation from the Police Academy.
 Possess a high school diploma or a GED equivalent.
 Must be a US citizen.
 Possess a valid Class C Maryland driver’s license or equivalent.
 Pass a physical ability test; as set below.
 Be of good moral character and emotionally stable as determined by a comprehensive background investigation. Must be able to be certified, and maintain their certification as a fully sworn law enforcement officer through the Maryland Police Training Commission.

Physical Abilities Test:
This is a pass or fail test. Applicants will be required to perform the following tasks:
 Demonstrate the ability to run up and down at least two flights of stairs.
 Demonstrate safely jumping down from a height of at least our feet.
 Demonstrate safely climbing over a fence at least four feet in height
 Sit-up requirements, all must complete within one minute:
ages: 20-29 30-39 40-49
Males 18 15 10
Females 15 11 9

Push- up requirements, all must complet with one minute:
ages: 20-29 30-29 40-49
Males 13 11 10
Females 10 08 07

Demonstrate the ability to run at full speed for at least 300 yards.
Run a mile and a half within 17 minutes and 18 seconds.
